2010 cycling resolutions

Related: At least 30 km/day. Beach camping by bike. At least one century. Acquire clipless pedals.

Semi-related: No more of those tasty tasty cigarettes. Start lifting heavy ass weights again; scream Ronnie Coleman idioms, e.g. “NOTHIN’ BUT A PEANUT.” Pretend that above is still funny after it is plainly not, continue until once again hilarious.

I didn’t changed my computer back from km to miles when I moved back to the US. It makes me feel more pro. Though it also causes some confusion when comparing my stats with friends and sometimes forces me to do some quick mental calculations.

I resolve to not buy any new (or new to me) bikes in '10. Excluding the off chance I run into an xo1/2 or RBT that falls into my lap for a ridiculous deal (got the RB1 for $150 and the person thought I was giving them too much) I’ll also reserve the right to build up any frames I may just have laying around

I will attempt to accumulate enough points on the track to upgrade to 2 (for bragging rights) then hang out with the masters.

I’m joining a workout studio, I will pay some eager beaver to call me fat ass and make me do all kinds of uncomfortable things until there is 10lbs less of EJ.

Cross season 2010 training program starts in April with 8 hours a week of focused training.

I will avoid driving to work this year. Will not count commuter time as training time after April.

TimArchy and I will work on CX team tactics, he will race B’s with me and we will be a devastating combo. I will collect enough points to do an A’s race by the end of the season.

^EJ getting serious about his CX look.

I would probably go down there for that.

Re: Centuries
I try and drink a bottle of fluid (I actually REALLY like Arizona Green tea as it isn’t as acidic as soda, has caffeine/sugar and doesn’t taste terrible if it gets warm in the bottle) every 90 minutes (60 minutes if it is over 90 out), and eat small portions ever 30 minutes and then a big amount of food every 3 hours. I’ve bonked on a bike tour before and it was fucking terrible. We only had 9 miles left but it might as well have been another 100 to my legs and body.

heath: i wasn’t recommending anyone do like me and not eat…it’s just my body rejects food.
if i was hungry i’d eat…my buddy that rode with me was scarfing cookies and shit the whole time and i was like uuuggggghhhhhhhhh
i did drink about 32oz of powerade ever 10mi or so, so i think the calories in that kept me going.
oh, and my century was done on the track bike at 48/18.

EJ getting serious about deciding my resolutions for me. (I’m totally on board though)
We’re going to start practicing tactics during the weekly 40mi fast paced ride. First I need to work on not getting dropped. Stayed with the group today, but was barely on the back for the last 10 miles.

fuck. i will ride alone. sometimes. occasionally. when i want to. maybe i will even ride a little more than i did this year.

~313 calories right there. More than enough to keep you going on a century. ~300 calories per hour is a good number to keep from bonking.

I’ll stop wearing regular clothing for >2 hour rides, I’ll stop riding in jeans and boots altogether, and I’ll get some good shoes for cycling, maybe even clipless.

I’ll bike to Normandy at least once before the end of April, and I’ll bring cross tires to do some trails there.

I’ll do a 1-week tour by the end of June.

I’ll do a 2-4 week tour by the end of the year.

I’ll ignore or forget a couple of these resolutions, preferably including this one.

  • make it to my local velodrome
  • ride 12 miles in 30 minutes

That’s me for 2010

Stop buying bike shit I don’t need.

Use the bike shit I have more often.

That’s simple enough for me.

Nice. Sounds good to me!

Awesome, you can ride to New Orleans with me and Elderberry.

Did this several times in 2009. I love descending.

Ride the Lake Washington loop with Tarkeemoon and Balonya.

Actually I got all excited about resolutions and whatnot and need to make one retraction. Seeing that my wife is racing A’s next year (same time as mens b’s) I will be racing masters next year. Coz I want to heckle my sweetie and cheer for my wife.
