2024! a year in bikes

My wife’s mat leave ending this past January, so 2024 was the year I became full time dad. I think I clocked more stroller miles than bicycle miles. I also sprained my upper back with babby carrier overuse so I was pretty out of commission for anything with drop bars.

However once summer came around and babby was big enough, he started to love the Yepp mini:

I kept adding sealant to my mtb for a ride that never happened :man_shrugging:

We rented a trailer in Tahoe for a ride to the beach:

Sup started commuting in nov after we got her an e-Gazelle:

Big improvement compared to sitting in traffic!!

I switched to a geared commuter with fenders and my commute miles increased significantly. I switched to a full suspension MTB so my off-road mileage also improved. They closed the bridge for my favorite mixed terrain ride from my house so my overall mileage wasn’t as high as it maybe should be!

I’m impressed that half your spending is consumables from riding itself

The level at which some of y’all track your bikes is amazing, I can hardly track what bikes I currently own compared to what I was riding 12 months ago.

Biggest change is both my kids are pedaling for themselves. Woom for my oldest and the co-op from @halbritt is on its 3rd rider.

I’ve pulled off my first successful n-1 going from the fast endpoint and a comfy ditch river ditherer to a fast and comfy Waterford.

Did an n=1 and sold the Bullitt for a big dummy

Put a lot more miles than I expected to on these fun things too

I happened to mistakenly see the total of how much I’ve spent on bike since 2012 and will not be sharing that in any way with anyone.

2024 was supposed to be a low-dither year and it turned out to be dithering unbound. Garbage year, but the bikes turned out great. Inadvertently dithered together two new bikes that no normie could tell apart other than the color of the bags and they’re fantastic and get the most ride time of them all.

I think I did all of 4-5 recreational rides the entire year. Rode to the grocery store more than ever tho and was on a bike for 5 days/week for most of the year, up to 6 days/week for a couple of months during the summer, and that made me happier than most any weekend rec ride could.

Hit my goal for the year, and damn it felt good. Starting to think that wife and I could easily be a one car family. All this riding is having a positive effect on my body and mind. My patience for others increased tenfold and my ability to be present with those I love has grown beyond my expectations. Who knew that doing something so simple would have such a profound impact on my life. Looking forward to riding and climbing more off-road in the coming year.
