Go to Yosemite. Take food. The bears will find you.
i’d see a bear once a week during summers, when i would live in tahoe with my grandparents.
but my favorite bear encounter was skiing home from homewood, a ski resort on west shore of tahoe, with my two brothers and happened to ski up to within 20 feet from a bear. THe thing just looked at us then scampered away.
that was back when i thought they hibernated…
saw a kodiak bear through binoculars.
even at a distance of 1000 feet away though things look huge.
When I lived in Upper Michigan, I was out in the middle of nowhere helping my dad check out a section of track (he works for the railroad). We were heading down this gravel road in the forest and rounded a blond corner slowly only to find a grizzly bear in the middle of the road about 2 feet off the front bumper. All 10 or 12 feet of him then turned around and reared up and roared at us. My dad threw it into reverse and gunned it for a good quarter to half mile before stopping to turn the car around.
