How is anyone here still using sram/avid brakes?
Nahp. Just atmospheric conditions I think. Change in temperature.
My old set of Arch Rivals is still going strong! But I know what you mean.
I have a bike with BB7s on it, only because I havenāt gotten around to putting on the SLX wet brakes I bought for it.
So yeah, the exception proves the rule.
Juicy 5s on my MTB still work fine. Also running 9 speed LX/XT drivetrain, octalink BB cranks.
But I have a 15mm T/A front wheel! So modern.
These were elixirs, Iāve already tossed a pair of Ultimates and Formula Ouros this year for their self adjusting abilities. I love going downstairs and just pumping the brakes on my wifeās Superlight, just to marvel at the fact that each time I know they are gonna work. Bb7s. Yeeha. Down to one hydro bike now.
Cheap Shimano wet brakes are so good and so cheap.
Why would the Wolverine depend on sliders when others donāt? If you buy a Soma are you really concerened with maximizing chainstay length to your overall wheel diameter? Just make the chainstays 42.5cm long and dimple them for a bit more tire clearance.
What am I missing?[/quote]
On my Salsa tourer the swinging dropouts are good for two things - SS if I break a derailleur, and tweaking chainstay length to be tight when Iām riding it for fun or long when Iām touring. Both super edge cases, but Iām all edge, baby.
I do like that I can slam them for customers using 650b wheels. But yeah⦠dumb.
Former cargo mechanic at my company insisted on only using organic pads and also rarely ever checked on them even after rainy days.
and you can see how uneven the pistons were engaging the pads.
Spyres?
The pad wear shape is consistent with what Iāve got

The front transverse brake cable snapped on my commuter yesterday when I was coming up on a red light. That was a lot of fun.
Was it on that VO brake where they specced the wrong grub screw that cut into the cable? Iirc Fred had this issue years ago.
Nah, it was a dia-compe cantilever with the original cable from 1984
I have nobody to blame except myself
Yeah man, a 25 year old cable owes you nothing.
