Ya’ll wear a balaclava in 30 deg weather? I’d be burning up if the ride was more than 10 min. I rode for two weeks when it was 15-20 every morning. I had a skull cap with ear flaps and a flannel scarf covering my nose and mouth. I usually had to pull the scarf down after 2-3 miles.
When it gets into the low teens I can see it, but for just around freezing, a balaclava is overkill.
The coffee shop isn’t more than 3 miles away, so baklava is a good call.
Those “Buff” things. (Google) It’s awesome. I wear it like an astronaut hood thing… over my head, ears, down the back of my neck, and in front of my neck down my chest a little. Covers up all the essentials and I can pull it up over my mouth and nose if I need to. SUPER warm and wind-proof, and it breaths… No moldy skunk ass breath accumulation like fleece.
I want to get a winter cycling cap because the only thing that really gets me is my ears. They get painfully cold before it’s even cold enough for me to put on gloves. anyone know where to get one?
Rapha cap is not that nice. One of my partners at the shop owns one and only uses it wandering around. The Swobo one is nice but the fit is a little bit strange.
Far and away the best winter cycling hat/head cover is this wool cap from Capo Forma. I wear mine under a helmet on long cold rides and it is WAY warmer than any skull cap or other windstopper thing. My head does not sweat and I can wear it just hanging out too.
It is pricey but worth it. VERY high quality wool makes all the difference. http://www.uplandsg.com/capoforma/RetroWoolCyclingCap.htm.
I believe the brand is Serious. Rusty has one too. Ill get back to you for sure though.

I agree that 30 degree wether would be no fun with a 'Klava on. I generally really dont care for scarfs while riding due to the bunching that occurs on the back of your neck. Its even worse with a hood and helmet. Klavas also stay in place far better and if youre over heating its easy to just pull the face down and wear it under your chin.
I think I’m going to go with a cap that covers my ears. The balaclava is prob overkill but ~30s feels colder when its wet than a dry 30 degrees.
That Capoforma looks cool but it looks like street price is $80… it better be one fantastic cap. The $40 Swobo wool cap looks like a deal compared to that.
