I bought a set of those for trimming soldered diode legs and what not and came to the same conclusion.
Next up is one of these.
My dad is a carpenter: “Nail nippers” are forever in my vocab. (you cut the head off the nail, and you can pull the piece of wood off, or you can get the nail started to later use a pry bar on it.
Yeah, love those cutters for everything from trimming through hole leads on PCB components, dynamo wiring and zip-tie clipping.

i have good luck with a sharp utility knife and some care
even with lots of care, that’s a sharp blade that’s real close to paint/carbon/hydro hoses
not worth the risk imo, when toe nail clippers or those side cutters above do a perfect job
i also work in bike share these days and use slicers more on pivot tables than bikes so please accept this grain of salt. i’ve never used a drill driver for so much bike repair before and couldn’t be happier about it.
I no longer do finish trimming since zip-ties sometimes like to release a few notches on their own. Lately I leave the sharp cut edge exposed and hit it with lighter then a wet finger tip so there is a flared blob of plastic preventing a premature release
Not sure how new these are but recently found Channellock flush cutting diagonals at the hardware store. They work great and not the same as regular diagonals (I have 2-3 regular Channellock diags).

This. Except I wasn’t smart enough to do the lighter thingy. I just leave a small bit exposed and try to position the head so that the sharp bit isn’t likely to catch anything.
That’s clever and pro as hell. I might do that on my own bikes, but there’s no way I am going to take the time to do all that on every customer’s bike with zip tie housing.

I was just about to post the same thing minus the wet finger dab.
I have U-line zip ties and never had one release on me. Bought a 1000ct bag in two different strengths and haven’t looked back.
