Black Mountain Cycles is doing disc frames:
Disc Frame Details

Are we that forum?

I’m thinking maybe I should just bite the bullet, sell my BMC Road, and build some sort of disc brake party machine. It would be close between that bike and the Dumpster/Diver, but I have no clue how much I’d get for a road bike with a fat guy build from a relatively obscure company (that and it’s a really nice bike that just never fits into my schedule to ride)

I sold my BMC road (Force 22, HED wheels) very quickly/easily over on braceline.

I fully expect to see more of these stories, featuring shops, component makers, and integrated bicycle brands. The boom has boomed.

My first reaction was, ā€œIs Velocity next?ā€

Indeed.

Definitely a DICKIW

I goaded my friend into buying a Lightning Bolt as a result. DICKIW cosigned

Maybe quit making weird snowflake bikes and silver parts?

Bloody hell, what a fucking whinger. You right, if he made what people wanted rather than telling people why they’re wrong he’d be making coin. Just look at the Crust guy: doing okay business-wise cos he knows what’s up with the market.

They’re right there on the edge of the zeitgeist, but everyone who is just having their bikes TIG-welded (in the same damn factory) is gobbling up their market.

It’s funny that he mentioned Bridgestone, because it sorta feels like Rivendell is going to end up like B’stone. Granted (no pun intended) there’s no Japanese parent company breathing down his neck, but the days of Rivendell being the only kooky bike maker/vendor are long gone.

.

…he’d be completely antithetical to the entire bike industry.

Grant isn’t the opposite of the bike industry, he’s more of the bike industry

An interview with a person who seems to deeply deeply regret having started a touring bike company, as it means he has no time to go on bike tours. The other episodes of this program just feature small business people doing brand positioning with each other, this one seems more like my favorite Colbert Report interview, featuring a man trying not to cry while describing his frantic defense against a homicidal rabbit:

I really enjoyed that interview with the Crust dude. I had no idea he was Strine.

Has grant ever not hinted at the imminent demise of Rivendell? I feel like they’ve been a couple bad months from obliteration for ten years.

One had to wonder — how much are sales declining? When did the downturn start? Maybe it started when they started getting real fuckin’ weird. Maybe it’s time to drop the bullshit and get back to basics. And let SONEONE, ANYONE that’s not grant write that blog and try to associate Rivendell with having fun on a bike and not middle aged whining.

The whole ā€œI haven’t gone on a fun bike ride in two years PLEASE BUY STUFF FROM MEā€ thing is totally annoying. It doesn’t convince me that he even cares about bikes. Someone selling such expensive novelty crap should at least pretend to be really fuckin stoked on it
