My real answer is to go with the option where you don’t have anything that resembles a boss. You have a cool job and I’d hate to see some shit-ass company rob you of your joy.
I think the content creation would be a great option if you were an influencer outside of the bike industry. Being in it, doing content work for the highest bidder could muddy your personal branding. Stick with the higher end product at a sponsorship level and let them help you build your brand as you build theirs. It may be less money, but that’s the bike industry. None of us ever got into it to make money, we got out of it to make money.
This is inline with what I’ve been thinking too. Thanks for walking this through with me everyone.
Quick update in case anyone is curious.
Cannondale dropped me (and a bunch of their other sponsored riders.) Not surprised, but still stings a little, especially when they tell you I generated more clicks/media impressions than most of the other folks (besides Lachlan of course.)
Had conversations with both Liv and Salsa who “love me” but there’s no money.
Honestly I’m pretty stoked to get to ride the bikes I have for a while. Still keeping the door open if the right offer comes along, but basically the decision got made for me.
Have you talked to Kona?
