Can't stop riding like a jackass?

Riding faster than cars isn’t riding like a jackass, necessarily. Riding like a jackass is riding like you’re filming MASH every day. It sounds like you are generally a responsible, assertive rider who has the handling skills to ride fast. Sometimes drivers, like that cabbie, put you in shitty situations, but that wasn’t really your fault if you were taking the lane like you said you were. Sure, if you go to the commuting forum on brianforums, they’ll tell you that you’re a jackass unless you wear full reflective gear with bells on it, give hand signals, and ride slowly enough in the bike lane that you will always be able to stop in time to avoid getting doored or right hooked, but fuck riding like you’re a guest on the road.

Not riding like a jackass is a lot more fun on a road bike.

For real, I way prefer extreme stop and go with two brakes/gears.
Man I don’t, the only time I like gears is when I can really open it up and get moving. I like the fixed gear specifically for traffic and sitting at lights (if I don’t run it and bust a wicked skid)
i was without a fixed gear for a while, and i found that i did not like riding in traffic on a geared bike. it may have been that the bike was too big and the brakes were set up too low, but i just didn’t like the feeling. it was nice to not have to worry about pedal strike, but…

fuck. i’m trying to describe the zen.
same here. my geared bikes all fit well, but i really prefer riding fixed in traffic. just more comfortable i guess. god, i’m such a weiner.

Agreein with this, not riding like a grandma doesn’t make you a jackass. I always get a laugh reading the A&S forum at bikeforums.

I had a close call once where the side of one of my bullhorns was literally sliding along the edge of a suv that cut me off and immediately slammed on their brakes. Now I want to ride fixed in traffic because my handlebars are skinnier.
