F that S. I had a very reputable LBS give me DS and NDS spokes for a dished wheel. They had one size in stock, but had to cut and roll the other, apparently. Unfortunately, the threads were rolled undersized as a result of a poorly tuned spoke rolling machine and every drive side spoke went slack all at once.
From this point forward, I’ll do the math myself and order the spokes myself.

I’m seriously willing to go through this repeatedly with anyone that wants to give it a whirl. The math ain’t hard. getting a few dimensions ain’t hard. Hell, drawing a simple diagram will usually do the trick. For the most common parts, it’s as simple as selecting them in a program and saying, “go”.
The only thing that bugs me about building wheels is that it costs more for the privilege. For a set of open pros, I couldn’t buy rims, hubs (Ultegra or whatever), spokes (DT double-butted) and nipples for less than I could get a set of identically built open pros from bicycle wheel warehouse or somewhere. It’s cheaper just to order built wheels and tension them myself.
Yeah you USA cyclists have it pretty good that way. Factoring in shipping to Canada, you just about break even building your own and maybe even make a hamilton. At least that’s what I tell myself… Anyways it’s a useful skill to have e.g. when you trash a rim hitting a curb, when you fuck up your derailer limit screw and destroy some DS rear wheel spokes, or any of the other dumb things manders do that require replacing wheel parts, retensioning and retruing.

I should look into this there are plenty of things in they bay area that would offer such a class.
I kind of want to learn calculus. It gets used in population biology all the time, and when it gets brought up at linguistics talks at the University of Edinburgh (they do lots of evolution related stuff) I have to sit there nodding my head like an idiot. I need a For Dummies book or something.
