and anyway SPOTS are _strongly recommended in the rules_, and dotspotting is an accepted part of the sport.
Filming commercials for _checks notes_ a big brand famous for ruthless copyright litigation and a used bike shop swimming in VC money, not so much.

This is really just a “pro cyclist” vs “amateur cyclist” thing when you get down to it.
At what point is a line drawn before every “pro” starts to race the events more like a UCI road race than a timed poopbarn?
To be clear, the problem isn’t Lael the person. The problem is what Specialized has the power to do with Lael the brand.

Since she rides what she wants to ride and has a healthy contempt for specifically anti-Lael rules, I’m not sure what Spec’s legal department would bring to the table. As for marketing, I suspect that they’d rather it just vanish because the organizers of the race are beclowning the whole great divide and it’s hard to make winning a clown race an aspirational thing in the ads.
