When I bought my Traffic frame, it showed up in a Parlee box. I had it on my xtracycle and I stopped at the bike shop to pick up some small parts and the shop bros thought I was way more baller than I am. I had to break their hearts by telling them it was just a cheap steel single speed.
Very bad photo here. I doubt I’ll even take it out of the basement for two months. I’m super impressed so far. It’s packed really well. Even the stupid little parts are nice!
Things I do not like:
Internal cables, which aren’t a problem for me because they built it
Seatpost bolt is tucked behind the top tube. It’s a 4mm. I can’t see it lasting long in that spot with any road spray at all.
Headset comes with a huge volcano spacer thing at the bottom under the stem. Can I get rid of that??
I’m mildly annoyed the steerer is 10/8 inch because I have a lot of 9/8 stems.
Things I like:
It’s pretty
It’s light
The tarck sticker fits well
It was in stock
- little ring
- no garage door
bike looks rad, I’m excited to hear how it rides, once slush season gives way to proper spring.
you can almost certainly get rid of the hs topcap unless Canyon made some goofy suspension deal.
Maybe put a bit of gaffer tape over the seatpost bolt? I’m not happy that so many companies are messing with seatpost retention. Salsa Liplock worked fine in 1995, should work fine now, too.
You can usually swap those with a flat cap, I dunno about that 5/4" jawn though.
Oh yea, your list of “Things I do not like” matches the little annoyances I ran across originally and then forgot about. The 1.25" stems are super annoying. I think Giant and Scott/Syncros are the best bets for 1.25" stems.
My wife’s bike had a little rubber cover for the seat post bolt. In spite of her preference for this bike over her fender bike, the bolt hasn’t seized yet…
must it spite us, our way life?!
Mine also has this cover and when I lose it, it will be replaced by a piece of electrical tape because I’m a dirtbag.
I also hate the bar tape, it’s awful.
cover that bolt outside in grease or clear nail polish or something to keep it nice too.
Gonna need a bigger donut.
What does the Canyon graphic look like on the NDS? Never seen that and have always been curious.
i can already tell finding Rare Stems for this thing is going to be an enormous asspain. i have EA90 stems in every size from 100 to 140 that i was hoping to use but did not pay close attention to the steerer diameter
and of course i can’t exactly dial in the fit on the fuckin rollers, and i don’t want to order 10 stems and return 9
Happy NBD. Giant also uses 5/4 inch stuff, might be easier to find a dust cap from them.
thank you. seems like Ritchey makes some reasonably priced good stems in 20/16ths so i will probably do that, i’m just annoyed my existing stock is useless
Guys can we just cut the bullshit here and stick to Burmese traditional units? These fractions are getting confusing. It’s a 1 လက်သစ်, 2 မုယော and 4 နှမ်း steerer.
Nah, clothing sizing.
XS - 1"
S - 1-1/8"
M - 1-1/4"
L - 1-1/5"
Boot cut - tapered
tailored - threaded
Make L = 1-3/8 and XL = 1-1/2
Covers all the steerer standards I’m aware of.
S/M bootcut steerer has a nice ring to it.
Add to tarck lexicon?
We’re gonna need a tarcktionary
How do we differentiate XS threaded/threadless? There’s pantschat happening here, someone figure this out
what’s a bootcut steerer in a beercan headtube?
XS tailored is threaded
Tarcktionary needs to be for established users only. For sale titles like “enve dick pokes for sale, s/xl bootcut steerer, 0.5 Katu shipped” will go a long way in keeping people from joining just to try and buy stuff.
