My auto 2 speed was still there at the airport 48 hours after I dropped it off friday night. 23 mins from home to airport on it. Its a fair bit longer if I take the car. I think i have the gears sussed. Running a 32 on the front, 19 on the back. Gives me just enough speed for bursts of commuting through the CBD, and a low enough gear for the main hill on my commute if i stand up here and there.
am confused about how this works
I welcome criticism and appreciate feedback
Really wish my parts bin was as deep as some of yours.
Unfortunately, it is not.
So I’ve been piecing together bits when they’re on sale and using what I already have on hand.
Will eventually change the seat, bars, and levers (those Cane Creeks feel so tiny!) Also want to build my first wheel set for this bike. Something a little lighter with a dynamo. So much to learn.
That’s a really handsome bike
now that’s a lovely bicycle.
LOL. Fair enough.
Its a sram automatix 2-speed hub. I guess it has pawls that engage a taller gear at a certain centrifugal force. With the 32-19 this is at about 11 kmh, from memory. It also has a coaster brake, which is more of a PITA than anything for commuting as you cant pedal back at the lights for an efficient getaway. I havent even taken it offroad yet. Should work given the ratios. 43.7 gear inches in low and 59.6 in high, 1.36 taller.
Brake with non dominant foot?
I don’t miss commuting on a coaster brake.
Those rings are the only reason I’m running those ugly cranks on this bike.
These cones have been sitting right next to where I park to walk Roli into the school so I’ve been putting them out like a beer delivery truck.
Really digging the vibe on both of these! @Elliott What’s that chainring on the Serotta?
Its a non ramped 3/32 Willow. Riv used to sell them.
Thanks for sending me down this rabbit hole. ATMO if we stick to black, I wish I could find a pic of this FRM in 46T (below is 50T).
There are also a LOT of rings that look pretty good in 110x50T, but look bad in 110x46T. I suspect an FRM in 46 would still look good though.
i will never discourage the use of a bigant. but i do think that bigant has the most to offer on a front rack. either way- i subscribe to the church of the bigant so take my take with a himalayan rock salt lamp
That has a front rack mount right? What about dual wielding Big Ants?
Idk how much the adapter plus crate costs but I would say consider how much you expect to use/need the removability and/or collapsability of racktime and crate vs. a bigass permanent basket hoseclamped on there.
I’ll shill muji stainless laundry baskets but the large wald are good also.
The original SnapIt adapters are like $20 or less, so not really that much more than finding some appropriately sized p-clamps, probably not as stable tho.
Yep, same mounting pattern as the Boost and the other Bennos. For now I’m going to take the front tray off the Boost and use it with a bag for a while before I start spending too much (more) money on it. They sell a less expensive front rack that looks like it would work out well with a BIG ANT should the dither take me down that path.
The bigger front rack is sized perfectly for a wald 139
