New to me Igleheart dirt tourer. Maybe one day I’ll trim the steerer tube and get a cooler stem.
this deserves some of @igor ’s fancy brass bits
I decided to put some time/money into my Starling Murmur after killing the rear wheel and derailer on Apex in the front range.
Building up Nextie carbon rims with Tairin silent hubs.
Put a silver 200mm PNW dropper on it.
Switched from a very dope Microshift / Shimano Advent X combo to 12 speed E*Thirteen and a SRAM GX derailer. XT shifter with the TRP adapter arrives next week.
Then I’ll lube the TRP pistons, bleed the brakes, and take pictures of it for this thread.
tell us more about the hubs

Got this a couple days ago. Guy i got it from bought it brand new in redondo beach in 1979. Factory klunker with a drum brake/5 speed setup. Even has the cali bike license on the seat tube. Had the biggest smile on my face riding it around the other day, what a sweet bike. Rockabilly is BACK for 2025.
Wish they still made the Venge…
welcome back
Will be looking for a barn to poop in this weekend. Still cant decide on tent or bivvy. Its likely to rain for the first 2 days. Everything else is sorted. Gearing was way too tall last time I did this event. Should be better now.
i dont know, i prefer tent, but its a whole thing w poles and stuff. for one person id do bivvy. but can i also say i still find it immensely funny about the pooping in a barn and its origins.
I’ve built a lot of weird bikes over the years but this one is one of the weirdest yet best riding.
The story goes that I wanted to get my hands on a Rawland ULV fork to put on my Stooge Rambler to make it lower trail. But it turns out it’s 430mm A2C not 400mm, so OOPS. But it also turned out that my in-laws dropped this jalopy of a Specialized HRXC on me. I knew it would take a lot of loot or weird parts to make it rideable for them so I gave them another bike and then proceeded to throw the parts bin at this one.
So I took off the crappy 80mm suspension fork and put on this 80mm offset Rawland fork. I had some 26+ wheels/tires laying around so I put those on too. I’ve always wanted to try Jones bars so I found some locally for really cheap.
I’ve taken it on some test rides and I was really impressed. I finally “finished it” yesterday with the Hyacinth rack + plate + Wald basket + light + dropper post.
The bike rides way too good for how weird it is, and is ridiculously fun. The low trail geo + front load + plus tires is just so balanced and fun.
I might have to repaint the clapped out paint job on it.
Yes, it was a sad day for hipster bikepacking. I zip-tied my foot-print to my inner the other day so I can just roll it out as one thing, stake it, then flip out the poles. Its a big agnes so self supporting. Then string up the fly. I am thinking I can get cover on the first night at least so might wing it with the bivvy. Its a whole kg lighter…
Does each wheel come wrapped individually in foil?
it’s a giant blister pack
May I humbly suggest that whatever you do, it’s a splash paint job?
Send me those recalled cranks and I’ll get you some new ones to offset the cost of going with 155mm 46/30 cranks.
