ok i appreciate your review. my priorities are 1. decent performance 2. cheap 3. durable
so far ryobi meets those priorities perfectly

Ryobi is an interesting product. Used to be junk, but the TTI product people got their ass in gear and neatly segmented their products into consumer (Ryobi) and professional (Milwaukee).

They benefit from being made by the same folks with many of the same parts and engineered by the same people. In some cases, there’s some cost-engineering for the Ryobi tool, but in others, it’s just cheaper because that’s the market segment that it’s oriented for. Ryobi is also a segment that gets some unique consumer-oriented features.

A comparable mid-torque from Milwaukee or Dewalt would be closer to $230 for the bare tool. Batteries are where the red and yellow brands are able to capture margin. The market for which Ryobi is targeted won’t tolerate the pricing. As such, the Ryobi tools get maybe slightly less runtime, slightly less peak power, and way, way more Wh/$.

I bought one of the makita kits from the despot a few weeks back. Only 4ah batteries and I’m sure there’s nicer drills/drivers available, but Totally fine for my needs

yeah i’m not up on a roof and gonna lose profit if my battery runs dry, i just have to pop it on the charger and go inside and have a glass of ice water for 20 minutes. totally different customer need
thank you for writing this, that confirms my gut feeling

ryobi stuff is great. form factor is a bit clunky but if i did it over id probably go ryobi over makita just cuz i’d be able to buy more tools

yes the cheapness and in-stocked-ness of ryobi is very appealing

A$30 each on the oz store. Consumed, cos cheap tyres don’t usually exist here.

Just get a $10 breaker bar from harbor freight. Crack the nut with the breaker bar and then zip it off with the impact.

that is significantly less convenient

having done that with my impact driver that’s totally not an impact wrench, it is annoying. i still want an impact wrench so i can avoid the big ass breaker

i have a corded impact that will zoop them off real good but i don’t want to have to drag out the cord

I usually break them loose with a breaker bar, then use an impact to zip them off.

fuck that wall spaghetti shit

3/8 m12. Totally didn’t need this but after spending a weekend using ryobi to build a chicken coop at my friends…my Milwaukee are so much better. I have the 1/4ā€ driver, this 3/8 wrench and screwdriver
