how much does girl specific matter?

2016 Scott Scale RC700 For Sale

Some Scott or Specialized carbon XC race thing will probably be the lightest. The Orbea Laufey looks a lot more fun geometry-wise for a hardtail.

Kinda depends on what riding she’s doing.

The polygons could be a good time. May be a bit big now, but 410 reach isn’t too terrible to grow into. seems available July.

You’d have to dig into the details of stack/reach and component spec. With female body specific iirc you are liable to get comparatively smaller touch points, prolly diff saddle, and if the lights are on a shorter reach relative to stack, esp. on smaller sizes. I think some of the Juliana bikes basically added a smaller size or two in addition to offering some of the same frame sizes as men’s bikes.

In the last few years, what crusty said is true regarding smaller or different touchpoints.

Liv was really the last to make actual geo changes (shorter reach, and often steeper HTA) compared to men’s bikes. And it looks like they still do a bit, though product line looks slimmed down some.

Can also see if any spec shops have the Status 140 in either the Zero

or the standard S1 if she’s gonna grow into it.

Can’t remember what small change there was between these two, but they are different skus.

On the FS bikes the Livs were just shifted one size, so a medium Liv was a size small Trance

Newer ones might differ more.

So they built the whole brand around special sized girlbikes and just lied about it? Wasn’t there a lot of talk about shorter reach and stuff?

They didn’t lie. It wasn’t just moving a size down. They were genuinely different. Sup was looking at a few bikes because she was a giant fan for a while, but then we were so perplexed by HTAs being 1* steeper among a few other things.
