There are two lengths, I’ve found. The sets for larger tires have the longer stays.
I’ve always trimmed at least a little bit off of mine. They’re aluminum, which is a lot easier than the steel on the PB or SKS fenders.

that scans with what i have n hand. i can just measure my current fender struts and cut the new ones down
Okay so I’ve never figured out chainring wear on bikes. I need to replace the chain and jockey wheels on my LHT. I have a new cassette so I’ll probably just replace that too. The chainring is a cheap Sugino that I changed about the same time as the chain and looks like this:
There is some hooking but not a ton? I’ve got one of those Surly stainless rings to replace it but if the current one has another chain or two in it I will leave it. What would tarck do
replace it. I always leave chainrings too long, and am always happy to have the replacement. Unless these are super expensive or rare rings and you really love their unique qualities, I’d just put the equally mediocre Surly ring on there and not think about it for a year or two.
If you aren’t getting chain suck, you will soon
The reason I asked is because last time I changed my chain, the chainring was so roached that I could barely pedal the chain suck was so bad lol
Shimano road disc brake pads seem to be out of stock everywhere. What’s a good alternative for the L03a (resin) pads that fit BR-R8070 calipers?
same boat! i ordered some Jagwire bullshit that’s supposed to work, @ me in a month or two when i’ve swapped them in
All things equal (e.g. price and availability), would TRP Slate or Shimano M6120 be the better choice for a trail brake?
Pro for the M6120 is that I can share brake pads and rotors with my other bike. Cons are general availability of both items. I have no Tektro/TRP brakes right now, but I think I can share my Shimano bleed kit/funnel.
you like servo wave or more like sram? trp slates are excellent and more like sram in their modulation
TRP all the way. They use a different funnel though.
Literally every person we have installed Slates or Quadiums for have made a point to tell us how good they feel and some have specifically requested them when upgrading to a new bike or adding them to their second bike.
Also… I brake quite a bit because not a great shredder and they give me all of it all the time.
TRPs can use Shimano 4-piston pads. Had quadiem pads fall out atop Thunder mountain, took life down to shop and put saint finless pads in.
Really loved those brakes. Wish high end would use bearings, but thats about it the only thing I was left wanting. I had gotten used to the stiffer brake lever on RSCs so the wobble was meh, but a bushing could have changed it quickly.
Ok idiot check this idea: I have a cycletruck, and for the last few years I’ve had a 19gal plastic tub zip tied to the rack. It works ok for carrying stuff, you just throw it in and take off. this bike gets used for my commute to work with a backpack and for general city use.
but what if instead I used a big Ikea shopping bag with a coroplast stiffener bonded to the bottom, with holes punched to secure the whole mess to the rack with even more zip ties?
My thinking here is that I get the same amount of cargo space, but in a form that can fold down when I’m not using, and that can be snugged over the top of a load to better secure it.
So, ideas? Problems?
Pros would be more aero and less noise.
Cons i’d be thinking of are less waterproof, handles/straps could get caught on things. I also think gluing to the ikea bag material would be tough.
Have you considered using bungees inside the tub? You might be able to put hooks to attach bungees into the base/sides of the tub.
good point on the straps, i’m picturing attaching long pieces of velcro to the bag to i can smush it closed pretty easily. i have a 50ft roll of 2in wide velcro that i’d like to use up over the course of my lifetime, this might put a small dent in it.
gluing the coroplast in might be hard, but i bet a shitload of duct tape would hold it well enough
the current plastic tub doesn’t have a lid, instead i have a dry bag for moisture sensitive stuff.
bungee cords were ok, but only to keep loads from exiting the tub when i hit bumps.
Bigant+Ikea bag? Put the bag in the basket the whole thing folds flatish when needed for big loads.
not bad, but i’m hoping to be able to get the thing pretty flat, but also to be able to securely wrap whatever i’m carrying. big ant doesn’t do much for me in the latter.
ooh also if the coroplast had foldable sides it could fold in even smalller.
i think i might be on to something here. hard to improve on the timeless elegance of “bigass tub”, but maybe, just maybe…
bigass tub is pretty nice. but i do like what you’re onto here. my old porter rack setup was a mess bag with two hooks and they were on straps you could tighten. being able to tension a bag in place was so nice
Part of me wants to find a more sophisticated way of attaching the bag, like with Ortlieb style rotating hooks, but I also like zip tie because zip tie installation is very simple: zip. tied!
