Some neat footage of the build process for the Magnic dynamo lights:

I particularly liked the 3D printed jig for wire winding. We seem to use the same orange ABS plastic for the 3D printers at my workplace.

Apparently mine is finally on the way.

Someone remind me how the hell that works?

Would it work with a carbon rim? (metal spokes/nipples).

Does not work with carbon rims.
the Magnic Light has magnets in the dynamo (as opposed to the wheel), and utilizes eddy currents. Basically speaking, these are electrical currents that are induced in a conductor, when that conductor is exposed to a changing magnetic field.

“Relative movements of magnets and neighbored conductive material induce eddy currents in the conductive material – in our case the metallic rim,” said Strothmann. “These eddy currents have their own magnetic fields which are absorbed by the Magnic Light generator kernel and by this way produce electric energy.”
Someone want to give me the TL;DR on which disc-brake dynamo hub I should buy, and from where? Will be running a light and charging USB stuff.

Son28
Luxos U
Starbike/bike24

shimano xt/ whatever is not flashy but still gets the jerb done and may just be the toughest dynamo out there IMO

this is the baller option: http://www.intelligentdesigncycles.com/shop/hub-and-spoke-dynamos/shutter-precision-hub-dynamo/shutter-precision-pd-8-disc-brake-hub-dynamo-45.html

your shop could get a wholesale account pretty easily

If you don’t get the wholesale price from Intelligent Design, bike-components.de will save you $25 delivered for one of those.

new bumm lights. brighter with aluminum housing

any thoughts on this: http://www.thinkbiologic.com/products/joule-3-dynamo-hub

and this thing too? http://www.thinkbiologic.com/products/reecharge-power-pack

i can get a pretty great deal on one… sturdy enough for poopbarn adventurebikepacking?

That hub reminds me of this sweet slammer:

like supernova the biologic hubs are just SP in a designerbroed shell, great if you can get them for cheap

the reecharge gizmo is reportedly quite janky

would be much better to get a Sinewave Revolution charger, and a standard USB cache battery (some support pass-through)

Wow they’ve overhauled the line. Not totally taken with the iq-x. Hope they don’t cut the IQ premium.

these are indeed very neat. I want to get some for the DRL + not having to think about anything factor.
I can hardly remember to put air in the tires some mornings

they never discontinue anything, that PDF is just what’s new for 2016

the IQ-X really kills the edelux

it’s luxos optics in the same size, the housing can be flipped for upside-down use, and comes in reenactment silver

the 150 lux e-bike version should be fucking insane

Brilliant. I’m on it tomorrow.

The centerlock is relevant to my interests, since I ended up with like a dozen IceTech rotors somehow.
