I use an IRO Jamie Roy with a carbon cross fork to fit 32mm knobby/studded tires for riding in the snow. The clearance is pretty tight at the seatstays and brake bridge, but you could probably fit up to 35mm tires, I imagine.
my friend might still have his 60cm rob roy. it fits me well and I ride a 56 trucker. That shit is SLACK though.
i like this thread.
You can fit 30s on a surprising number of frames. I bought that cheapo performance frame for winter riding and it took 30mm cx tires fine. Those same tires also fit on an Afinity frame I used to have.
Do you want room for fenders?
Fenders aren’t a big deal to me, I have a clip on fender that I use and I just deal with my pant legs getting wet.
this
I have had awesome luck with a clip-on fender. Totally kept my pants dry, even in the rain (they weren’t extra wet because of the wheels, I mean.
That being said, full fenders are hot.
Yo.
sorry for the blurred pictures but f/r tire clearance on IRO Rob Roy with 700x32’s
rear tire could go further into drop out giving more clearance
Thanks Bold and Halbritt. That frame was the best $15 I ever spent.
And EuroJosh, the Felt Breed is a pretty nice looking bicycle. I approve.
Remember that steeper geometry + bigger tires = more potential for toe overlap.
And that cyclocross bikes generally have slacker geometry by definition.
I’d just get a Cross Check if I were you. I run 700x37 Continental Travel Contacts, with fenders, and could run bigger tires if I wanted. The bike rides awesome, I don’t think there’s anything lacking in the geometry at all.
Whatever you guys are crazy. Everybody needs track geometry for every bike they have.
“Slack angles” = Your dad’s bike
“Super steep track geo” = Guy from MASH’s bike.
