glove chat

In regular rotation:

Louis Garneau Course 2
Vented gel padding feels thinner than it looks (which is a compliment). Doesn’t feel clammy when soaked. Easy on/off. Velcro closure on underside of wrist. Sizing runs true to slightly roomy.

Specialized Grail (half-finger model)
Center-of-palm padding is very effective/comfortable in all hand positions (drop bars). Doesn’t feel clammy when soaked. Takes a little more effort to put on/take off. No velcro closure. Sizing runs true to slightly small.

Pearl Izumi Elite Gel Vent
Padding is somewhat bulky, and most comfortable when hands are hanging off the sides of the hoods. Doesn’t feel clammy when soaked. Easy on/off. Velcro closure on underside of wrist. Sizing runs true.

For reference: I normally wear a size large glove. My favorite gloves are the Kind Human Modern Krochet gloves, but their sizing runs big, and I haven’t been able to try a pair in medium yet. Of the above three, I’d say that the Grails have the best padding, followed by the LG and then PI. I’ve been using the LGs the longest, and they’re holding up pretty well (but I’ve seen reports that they sometimes self destruct).

Been using these Giro DNDs for awhile:

I like that they don’t have a velcro strap and that they don’t have anything stupid on the back and the stretchy material breathes well.

The only thing I don’t like are the seams on the palm.

What is it with Giro gloves and palm seams? It’s like they purposely try to make them as obtrusive as possible.

I rode those Giro’s for a year, palms never bothered me. They are way tough, but get a little stiff and are heavy.
Loving these at the moment

im also in the fuck useless velcro tabs crew.

I have some half finger Specialized BG gel gloves from 4-5 years ago that I liked a lot but are pretty worn, I may need to check out these Grails.

i own 9 pair of gloves

is this where i leave reviews?

I got a pair of the Grails last week and have been wearing them daily since for all my around-town riding and one longer ride in the country.
The jury is still out on the center pad and it makes a lot of sense when you think about it, but i keep getting hand pain/tingling in my left hand.
I think I might switch back to Comps.

I’ve just about worn out another pair of Fox dirt paws from 2011. No padding, no palm seams, velcro under the wrist. Just about perfect.

I’ve been using Fox rangers for cross and mtb. No padding, good grip, cheap. Only problem is that the wrist is too big (or my wrist is too small) so the Velcro doesn’t fit where it is supposed to.

Bought some giro dnd cause green. They are ok. Still like my 661 rajis more. Minimalist full finger ftw.

Don’t understand padded gloves.

I has these

Kinda ugly as sin, but super comfortable. I sweat buckets and these help with grip a lot. Pad-free, velcro-free.

Been really liking the 661 Rajis after Braden’s recommendation. Great airflow and feel even in the hottest and sweatiest of conditions.

i have these. i like them

i just bought 3 pairs of more PI gloves, 2 short 1 full. I also got another pair of defeet blindingly neon pink gloves coz yolo

Just received a second pair of these Hoxtons in the mail:

First pair from 2013 are so incredibly smelly, even after washing. I’m assuming its the palm material since the wool on top doesn’t smell (Any glove washing tips?). The 2013 version has significant ripping between the fingers but that seems to be the Achilles Heel of most gloves i’ve had. The construction of the 2015 version is much sturdier and fits my palm much better than I remember the 2013 version fitting.

I’d like to eventually branch out and try other gloves but can’t bring myself to pull the trigger on anything else.
I dunno about ya’ll but I find 99% of gloves to be incredibly ugly to the point that I probably wouldn’t wear them if someone gave them to me for free. After all, you end up spending a significant chunk of time looking down at your hands when you ride, nothing worse than looking down and seeing some godawful pearl izumi logo silent vomit

I agree that gloves are generally ugly. But I only wear them when I’m also wearing bike-specific clothing that is also, by most standards, very ugly. So it doesn’t bother me.

Anyone have handup gloves? Several friends have them and say that they like them on instagram. But I don’t know if that is just because they’re pretty and good at social media and they were sent a free pair under instruction to say nice things about the gloves on instigram.

been real satisfied with leather palmed giro gloves.
how do hoxtons do in the heat?

That’s why I usually just buy plain black gloves whenever possible.

saddle soap. you can find it in tins next to the shoe polish.
put your gloves on, run them under warm water, then soap up and work it in. repeat until they don’t stink. rinse off and dry in front of a fan or air vent.
the leather will be a little dry at first but will soften up after you put them back on.

been stoked on these Giro Siv gloves lately.

I ride giro zeroes because pads make my hands numb. They really suck for longevity and get stretched out after a month or two of regular use. I’d love to find a better alternative.

I loved Giro Remedy gloves but could barely get a season out of them before they fell apart.
For road stuff I do like me some padding, and SpecialEd BG gloves have been nice. My current pair is stretched and worn to death.

Will look closely at the Grails.
Also at the Hoxtons as Mr. Sinyard gives me the creeps…

edit: didn’t realize Hoxton = another Giro glove model. Not ready to trust Giro again for gloves…
