All Sun articles are jokes, but the headline is “Car drunk kills bike race two”.
I really hope the Mexican govt’ holds this asshole accountable.
Ahh, you’re right. The browser line also says
“Driver smashes into bicycle race - killing two and injuring 14”
I hate made up captions, unless ass rippingly funny.
I feel kinda bad for the cop that was escorting the race. There is some speculation that he swerved out of the way of the oncoming car, I think he may have been swerving around the pack to avoid running over anybody. I spent this past Sunday driving the wheel truck/sag wagon for a pro/1/2 road race, the whole time I was planning out what I would do If there was a crash in front of me.
I really hope by now people have had enough time to cool down and realize in reality he was probably swerving to avoid injuring riders. I think often times cyclists think the worst of drivers and are quick to jump somebodys nuts about stuff they probably really didnt do. The only person REALLY at fault here is the driver that chose to get behind the wheel while under the influence. Sadly, his collision wasnt with a road baracade or a train or a rock or tree, but with a bunch of cyclists who suffered terribly for it. I honestly hope this re awakens some people’s awareness that it is NEVER acceptable to get behind the wheel of a vehicle if you have been drinking or smoking weed or partaking in other substances, ultimately the people who pay are the people you share the road with, it has nothing to do with your safety, and everything to do with the lives of others you endanger.
Dont fucking do it.
Here in Thailand, western tourists don’t get an inch of slack. Many times they get blamed simply for being at the scene when something happens.
I imagine it’ll be the same there. He might be able to get the embassy involved, but I doubt they’ll want to have much to do with him. With all the evidence, he should be in Mexican jail for a looooong time. I’d much rather see him there than dead. Mexican jail ain’t fun like American jail is.
Unfortunately, it’ll probably just make people more afraid of Mexico than they already are and they’ll decide to do their drunk driving closer to home.
