I went for a ride today, here are some pictures (old)

Gonna be hard moving anywhere that doesn’t have 40 miles of single track 5 minutes from my front door

Spent the last week exploring the outer banks and was able to bring the bikes. Such nice riding and spent the whole week sleeping in our new Big Sky tent. Also attempted to ride fireroads in the national park but after a mile they just turn in a foot of soft sand.

Ooh outer banks! I think that’s …near? Richmond? I’m still figuring out the lay of the land for easy weekend trips here.

It looks like you all had fun!

it is currently “PERFECT” bike season in portland rn

this was right before i double pinch flatted

had a weekend dirt road bonanza in MA/VT (D2R2 country)

oh man had so much fun going down salzman on 28mm tires with like 20 lbs of shit on the front of the radlawn. kept pumping them up hoping I’d stop bouncing off the rims: eventually it worked but then they were too hard for fun.

All these pictures are great.

Real stout ponies out there

Looks like 3-ish hours from you.
See lots of OBX stickers on cars here at Penn State and all I can think is, ‘yeah, you are pretty obnoxious.’ Took a few years for me to actually figure out what it meant.

yeah, there’s nothing like a slightly fast rutty rocky descent and the inimitable sound of the air releasing from your front tire

YEah, it goes hand in hand with “Salt Life” bumper stickers around here. Seems like a mix of assholes and affable Jimmy Buffett types are real into that general vibe.

Used to go down to OBX for summer vacation every year as a kid. Never considered going back till seeing those pics.

jdsmooth: got damn that Davidson is a nice bike.

Outer banks was cool, touristy except on Okracoke which is less so and more old fishing village kind of thing. Having to take ferrys to access the island helps limit the commercialism. I will say be prepared for insane winds. The first two days were fine but the last two days were 45 mph winds, enough that the sand would hurt as wind picked it up.

On the way back we wandered back through the Appalachians camping and hiking for a couple days on the way back. Had no idea Virginia had mountains like that!

Spring is here and the cutty singletrack commute options are getting filled out again.

HY, that looks pretty amazing. How much singletrack on the commute?

the commute itself is 17 miles, and if I pick carefully I can get maybe 3 miles of singletrack and an additional 5 of gravel.

Dang. That sounds super nice.

Dang that sounds awesome. I might get 200 yards if I’m lucky.
