i thought messengers must run so many packages per day, like 15, and everything over that is overtime/extra moniez?
i’m getting paid $2/package. some places pay minimum but you can break that if you deliver more packages.
One of the companies here pays hourly.
oh, and also you can get a guarantee.
moving on; first day impression: showed up at 8, didn’t get sent out until 8:45 on a paycheck route. delivered 2 of 30, was rerouted, couldn’t find the entrance, and moved on after i wasted, like, half an hour. thoughts: FUCK THIS IS STRESSFUL. but then i fell into rhythm, and it wasn’t bad. i had some trouble with the second to last package, but got it sorted out. i’m mostly just worried about how sore i’ll be tomorrow. i’m doing all right right now, but i’ve been lazy lately and i’m not sure what my recovery will be like. i didn’t really get yelled at. the dispatchers seem pretty laid-back, which i guess sort of accounts for their nickname ‘lazyship’. that’s about it.
oh, and it was beautiful out. sunny, highs in the low 50s. and now i’m headed out to start my mechanics course.
the shadowing isn’t so bad because i am doing what i would be doing anyways - riding my bike around. plus the other guys are really cool so far.
madison being a smaller city and all is really spread out and the delivery area is pretty huge - out to the suburbs and all. i’ve probably averaged around 25 miles over a 4 hour period.
yeah, that’s how it is sometimes. it’s ideal to be able to redirect some of that stress into your work, breathe deep, and just keep a steady pace.
