7970 or 6870?

  1. All of it is incompatible with the current e tube stuff.

I have a pair of 7970 shifters I’ve been hoarding for the day I build my next single speed.

Same. They were like $30.

How hard is it to take the guts/shift switch things out of those?

i’ve got a pretty good DQ

i found this steel 29er mtb frame but in the listing it says 68mm bottom bracket. if i were to get this frame would i use a mtb crank with spacers? is that how it works?

Yeah, mtb crank and bb with 5mm of spacers between the shell and bottom bracket cups

thx bb

Where would one look for a replacement spring for a huret jubilee dangler?

i’d try rolling my own from a straight gauge spoke
or ask Via Bicycle (Philly)

eBay?

Oh shit! Good loookin out

ok rimbrake talk

frame fits a 28mm tire with room to spare
frame will barely fit a 25mm tire with 10sp Rival era brakes

DQ: are there newer brakes that will help a 28mm tire fit? DA? Ultegra? fancy?

Looks like Shimmy BR-R600 would be your best bet. I know this has come up before with at least one or two other tarckers in a similar situation but I forget what the final resolution was.

he has short-reach brakes tho

the new BR-R8000 is the best clearance you can get without going crazy-boutique (and work the best)

5800 or 6800 are pretty damn good, and there’s more out there for cheaper

I was peeping the 6800 brakes on my buddies Tarmac, it seems like the center of the caliper goes above the brake bridge in the rear. Seems like a safe bet to me!

Yeah that’s what I was thinking

Yo Fred what’s up with the ee brakes tho

I’m not Fred but

EE brakes are cool. The pair weighs half as much as 9100 calipers. Lever feel and stopping power is the same if not better. Work good with wide rims. Max tire 28mm, maybe 30mm depending on fork and brake bridge. The pad slots are not long, Hard to keep clean. Use Triflow on the pivots.

I did not ever want another rim brake bike but

Will they give the same clearance that the br r8000s give?

  1. This is for my pink paramount
  2. Balleur af is cool

Edit:
Prior brakes were short length brakes or whatever the rival c.2010 was. Barely 5mm between tire and caliper

Can confirm 6800 calipers will clear a true 30mm tyre.

Yes but on a frame that can only fit a 30mm tire under the brake bridge?
Edit: chainstays will only fit a 28
