mtb shoes

it’s going to be time for new clipless shoes before too very long here. the 661 shoes are okay, and possibly the least ugly. but i’d be into trying something else, too. any recommendations? my criteria are inexpensive, durable, looking more like a regular shoe, and recessed cleat. shimano mt42 is the only thing google turned up that i thought looked okay, but i remember there being a hell of a lot more. since i know we’ve talked about this before, but i couldn’t find where.

Just to make sure that we’re all on the same page, are you going to be using these for mountain biking, city work, or both?

Because that could sway my answer pretty quickly. I had a pair of MT40’s that totally sucked out in the wilderness but were great for rides to the bank, bar, and such.

a little of each.

that new mission workshop shoe looks like it might be kinda badass.

mission workshop sounds like it kind of sucks, though. like my friend who got one of their frames. he rides a 58, they gave him like…a 54 or something, and he took it back and was like “dudes, this ain’t a 58” and they were like “nah, man, that’s what we call a 58. we gave u wat u asked 4” and he was like “return?” and they wuz like “nah mang”.

i don’t know why the hell i was typing like that. anyway, i’ve heard of people having problems with both them and their products.

What size do you wear? I have some MT40s that are a bit too big for me and I’m not too fond of 'em. If they fit, you can have 'em.

Used/cheap Sidi’s off ebay. The sole will wear out from courier work faster than MTBing, but still, it’s the Sharky approved shoe of choice, and we all love Sharkdog. With not much effort at all, I scored this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260630274074&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_500wt_947

Edit: Oh fuck, didn’t see the ‘look like regular shoes’ thing.

either 42 or 44 iirc…ummmm…44. just checked.

Pretty sure these are 45 or 46. I wear US 10.5 usually and they’re just a bit large on me. You’re welcome to have them if you think they might fit.

sure, i’ll try 'em on. i’ll trade you some hop stoopid or something if they fit. sounds like pretty close, might work.

i didn’t even know they sold bikes.

edit:
i think mission bikes and mission workshop are two separate entities.

I would be willing to bet good money that these are unacceptably flexy and hot-spotty.

hmmmm…maybe they are two different things.

those do look flexy, though, and not my style, but if stiff they could be a good shoe for someone.

pearlizumi makes a mtb shoe with the sole of a running shoe. would probably be good for urban use and maybe cx.

I think there are some new shoes at my co-op that are 44’s. they are asking 15-20 a pair. If I get there tonight I’ll take some photos for you if you want.

yeah, sure, that sounds good. thanks!

I have the MT-22 and I like 'em. Have been fine on 300km brevet w/ Speedplay Frogs collabo:

FUCKING LACES, HOW DO THEY WORK?

No shoes left at the shop sorry.

ian you’re kidding right?

get some sidis or im breaking up with you on facebook

These points make this thread relevant to my interests.

TC: I know it’s petty, but i’ve found it difficult to get pumped about clipless shoes cos they’re all so butt-fugly.
