Thank you for asking. Since I posted that ridiculous question on here, I’ve moved away and my dad now lives an hour+ away from me. I talk to him on the phone and see him whenever I come back into town, but as far as I know, he still is trying to open a bike shop. He’s been talking to different distributors, like East Coast Cycles (or something) located in Charlotte and so far has ordered a couple complete bmx’s and some cheap road components and wheels. I know that he still knows nothing about bikes or how to work on them, and his own cycling experience really doesn’t go past that of someone whose lost their license and has resorted to riding a bike around.

He’ll lose a lot of his start up money the first time he fucks up someone’s bike and has to buy them a new bike… he should spend that money and take actual bicycle mechanics courses before even trying to start a shop.

I wanted to tell everyone that I’m going to be getting serious about my bag business after graduation this summer. The last thing I would want to think about right now would be opening up a physical retail location. I’ve been designing bags for over 2 years, making for over 1 year, but without really knowing the business end (been taking classes) down hard, a store is not sensible option. I’m going to sponsor races and just do stuff online, and work out of my bedroom. If I don’t get a lot of commissions, that’s more time for me to work a normal job or just keep developing stuff. It’s not like I’m paying rent for a sewing machine really.

exactly what I did about a year ago, never looked back. Don’t think about a shop and don’t think about retail, it only cuts deep into the money you can use to grow, learn,offer fair prices for your customers, and continue creating…unless you want to start an international artisan alliance with me, which is my new dream.
