Kinda depends on who has it and where it is. This being Oakland, calling the police is a non-starter. Inclinations towards a violent altercation aren’t all that prudent either given that one might get shot. I am most certainly not going to “roll strapped” or whatever other lingo the kids use these days to go and fetch a bike.
However, there are a few known bike thieves around that move goods at the flea markets that have specious morals but don’t really consider themselves criminals. When confronted, they typically surrender the bike to the owner suggesting they didn’t know it was stolen.
Which I mentally translated as “we made a bunch of prototypes, rode with them for a month, then revised them (repeat until the riders stopped reporting defects and making reasonable feature requests).” If you’ve got 6 people riding a reasonable distance per month with those bags attached, the “design time” adds up pretty quickly.
I am thinking about ordering one when they’re back in stock. The rigid top/computer mount integration is appealing, along with a spot to clamp a front light.
Well that’s a lot more convenient than a proprietary thing.
I’m gonna look into these things.
Although, last night I couldn’t find my Ipad and I was trying to figure out if I left it at work or someone swiped it out of my cargo box on my bike while it was locked up at the playground.
The “Find My” app on my phone couldn’t find the Ipad and just said that it was at an arbitrary spot in the middle of my commute route three days ago at 8:45am.
I eventually found it in my garage.
I got a reflector holder for my airtag and ended up ziptying it underneath the kickstand plate of the polyvalent so it is totally invisible and secure.
it works great. when parked outside of the wedge (in a fairly busy neighborhood with lots of pedestrians and also bike thieves) the location of my bike is updated constantly, every couple minutes. when it’s in my garage, I think people driving past on the alley also ping the location regularly.
I’ve never had a bike stolen so I don’t know what I’d do with the location of my stolen bike. try to steal it back I guess. I wish I had some messbro friends
Damn the Fairlight Strael looks great. Purpose built four season roady/ randonneuse/ transcontinental shredder, with carefully thought out design elements and lots of geo options.
