open tubular??

how the hell do these work?

http://www.spokeandsprocket.com/CartGen ... =366&cid=5

this site has them as clincher tires? is this just wrong?

I duno, I can only think of the Tufo Tuby Clinchy

Here’s the scoop

“Open Tubular. It looks like a clincher but uses the unique construction method of high-end tubulars.”

which is a dumbass way to say…

“It is a clincher but uses the unique construction method of high-end tubulars.”

Gotta love marketing hype.

the other question: you just put a tube in it right? what a weird thing.

I’m sorry, but I can deal with “fixie.” “Tuby” or “tubie,” while considered questionable by some (http://www.sheldonbrown.com/gloss_tp-z.html#tubie), are ok with me. But “clinchy?” We have to draw the line somewhere, and I think I draw the line at two-syllable abbreviations of two syllable words that aren’t even difficult to say in the fist place.

Had to say it. Not attacking you, just the word “clinchy.”

Open tubular is just a term Vittoria uses for their super high quality clinchers, they usually handle higher pressures (like a tubular). I think that the reasoning is that it uses the same outer casing and uses the same hand layup process as their nice tubular tires. Regardless of what marketing terms are used to sell it, it’s a damn fine riding tire and i wish i could afford them all the time.

This is just a marketing term, nothing more. These Open Torinos are great tires, but no one here needs them, unless they’re going on a race-exclusive wheel.

all hype aside though, there really is nothing like riding a high quality tire. we get enough ‘tire change once a season worn or not’ roadies here that my supply of Michelin Pro2’s and Conti GP4000 is nearly inexhaustible.

just dicking around.

where is dutret to tell us that we are fools for running nice-riding tires?

IMO the front tire is not something to go cheap on.

looks like a pump
feels like a sneaker

someone sold me an open torino for 30 bucks and i havent put it on because i was confused. thinking back, it was a terrible decision to buy it when i didn’t know what i was getting but it will work out.

I had a dream last night that I found Some NOS Pro Race "1"s in a bargain bin for $12.50 and i spent all of my wife’s birthday money on them.

Me too. Mostly…

picked up a continental 4000S today, between that and the everwear i should break even on teh huf

good choice on the gp4000S, zelah. i’ve heard nothing but good things about those and i loved my gp4000. but why not throw on a gatorskin over that overpriced everwear? you know they ride much nicer and last nearly as long!
