Rain Gear

Get me into new rainpants! I’ve been using the same hiking pantshells for 4+ years and now my butt gets damp when I ride around. Recommend!

you should just go with knickers. I think that trying to avoid complete dryness is feudal, so just let yer ankles happen, and go the knicker route. plus, will be a little cooler on yer legs. which is ap roblem for me.

I want a cape with spats and helmet cover:

Regular with reflective tape (duxback):

But I’ll probably never actually get them cos they are pretty “affected”. They do work really well though.

They had knicks in feudal times too.

Other than the King few people were trying to avoid complete dryness ATMO

they better work well, they are basically a tarp? shit looks like it wouldn’t breath worth a damn, which would make you sweat just as much as if you had been rained on.

I don’t mind riding with a poncho, but I’ve never had good rain gear.

Complete dryness is a myth.
I have a Novara rain jacket, but it makes me sweat so much that it’s a wash between that and getting rained on.
I’ve long since accepted that if it’s raining, I’m gonna get wet.

Plenty of air can get in from underneath. Also your bars stay nice and dry.

dickes cutoffs plus PI winter weight leg warmers.

it’s regarded as bad form to rock rain pants in any conditions other than working on a crab boat

serious though i need a new rain shell and don’t want a dorky commuter lookin joint. i’d just get a northface venture but the back rides up and thats lame.

I don’t mind looking like a dork while I’m touring… Getting completely soaked, and nowhere to get dried off can suckdonkeyballs

What do you use, Les?

Sugino rain jacket and some pants that basically look like waders…(but not quite as bad…something from rei, can’t remember the name) The pants keep me super dry and my legs don’t sweat so much, so not so bad. Jacket on the other hand, is hot, coz doesn’t breath well and makes me sweat, which is almost as bad. tbh if it starts to pour while on tour, I don’t even wear a jersey, just jacket.

Also since it is starting to get into 50’s and warming up just a little more during the day… The heat from a rain jacket won’t be to bad

I have some nashbar winter bibs in a small I’d sell for 20 bucks. great condition. too big for me.

Personally, I’d rather be completely soaked in with rain water than completely soaked in sweat.

ive been thinking about getting a cape who rides with one?

This. wool is awesome.

I think a lot of the cape/rain coat stuff is geared towards people just tooling around town at a crawl… not working up a sweat. I personally CAN’T ride slow. No matter how hard I try, I always just keep picking up speed. If I gear down… I just end up spinning like crazy.
I usually just keep my clothes dry in my bag… and change as needed. There’s always a bathroom somewhere, and my hair doesn’t stay wet long anyways.

Superman?

And the sweat won’t dry because it’s trapped under your water proof jacket.

If you get rained on and are wearing someting other than heavy cotton, chances are a few minutes in the sun will dry it right now. This is one of spandex’s best features - dries out quick when the downpour is over.
