He works for Sun & Ski Sports out here in Houston. All locations have a pretty decent amount of cycling products.

Ok i was wondering if he did.
They seemed to have the best price on the web.
I think I need to get sized in a LBS first anyway.

Josh, do you guys have any good deals right now on shooz?

Josh, can I do that at your shop?
Or maybe you have some good deals right now on something anyway?[/quote]
That one is important as hell. The sizing and comfort vary shoe by shoe.

I had a friend try on a pair of Sidi Genius 5s and liked them well enough. Then he tried on the same size in a cheaper Louis Garneu and he was blown away by how comfortable they were. So definitely go in and try a few different shoes.

speaking of SIDI’s, I was browsing a pair because I think I might want to scope a pair of looks in the next couple months, anyways, online they said they were synthetic, truth? I was under the impression they were leather, but I couldnt find anything about it on the one website I was looking at. I would be jacked if SIDI’s were vegan.

They’re Lorica, a type of synthetic leather. A lot of higher end mtb shoes are synthetic, to my knowledge. The latest synthetics are arguably a lot better than leather for mtb shoes because they can’t stretch dry out or rot.

My Doms. are Lorica.

my life = made awesome.
what about the SIDI road shoes?

The Genius are Lorica as well

just buy good shit now because you’re not going to want to go back to clips/straps

The Gaerne Opal is the most comfortable shoe ever. And they will cost you half as much as SIDIs. The straps are just straight velcro, nothing fancy, but they are still a great shoe.

FUCKING SHIT

our columbus day sale ended yesterday. so the shoes are back up to 70 bucks. they were 30% off since they’re on clearance. i can only get 10% off clearance shit.

we have sidi bullets though… hmm…

i have 3 pairs of generic shimano spd-style clipless pedals that i grabbed at the bike co-op’s moving sale that i want to use. i’m picking up some mountain style shoes so that i can walk comfortably off the bike, and to use during (potential) cross races. this means, since i have enough pedals to go around, that i will be using the spd’s and the shoes on my cannondale and my work bike as well. which means long rides all year round on spd’s. does anyone have any complaints about comfort or hot spot with the pedals on long rides? there isn’t much of a platform to the pedals after all. i put in about 15-20 miles a night working, and ~30 mile rides aren’t uncommon on the road bike.

Hot spots are quite often a very personal thing where one size does not fit all. Too many variables like type of shoe, size of shoe, sole material, sole support (cushion), foot form, bike fit, cleat mounting, and like you said, pedals. You might not notice that much discomfort in 20 miles anyway. Then again, don’t you pedicab? That might be a little more grueling on your feet than anyone elses Sunday morning distance ride, you know?

But around 30 miles, you’re looking at a little hot spot-like discomfort in any shoe and pedal set up. I have SPD-SL Look Keos. Those have shit tons of platform and even they get a little uncomfortable after 30 miles.

I just read some Time horror stories at Brian forums.
Im just gonna run the double straps i think.

Links?

This guy had shit break on his pedal http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.ph … pedal+time and there is another person in the thread that popped out and crashed hard.

well i got the shoes. i got the hookup. oh yea…
just waiting on pedals…

What pedals are you getting?

I can’t believe that no one has pointed out that RUNNING EGGBEATERS BRAKELESS IS A REALLY FUCKING STUPID THING TO DO

if any of you reading this do it, I guarantee that you WILL come unclipped, it is just a matter of time. I love the eggbeaters, float on them feels great, and super easy to get in and out of, but I cannot emphasize enough that they were not made to ride brakeless in traffic

the messengers in PDX who ride clipless do the time atacs

people swear by the time atac/dominator combo that pricepoint does ($271): http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/17489- … D5A8%20KIT

(I realize that you have bought shoes, just posting this since no one else has and others may find it useful)
