DID YOU CHUMPLORDS MISS MY MPOAST RE: SLOAPS OR SOMEDHIT?/
Standover is one of the single most irrelevant dimensions on a bike.
it comes down to the fact that to have the bars level with or higher than the saddle. a level top tube pretty much give you only and an inch or two of seatpost extension.
my gf’s bike is example. she was tellin me how some dude saw it and asked if it was hers then asked if it was a little too big for her.
i had to try to explain it’s not that it’s too big, it’s just that if you want bars level with saddle that’s they way it’s gotta be sized.
oh yeah. then i had to listen to her talk about standover and i kept saying it’s doens’t matter and she says maybe in emergency she’d have to put foot dow real quick and i say whatever. use brakes to slow then ride around the obstacle. no need to put foot down.
most people are concerned wtih standover. they shouldn’t be.
I like it, but I think I’d choose the Sam Hillborne over this if I was looking for a bike kind of like this. Similar price range, and a bit more touring disposition.
Or, hell, a Bombadil, seems like that thing would make an amazing do EVERYTHING bike.

I agree. Just trying to sort this out, I think I’m making progress.

So, if I’m getting this right: to avoid having a really tall and possibly really long (and potentially flexy) stem, but still have bars higher than saddle, you go with the upsloping top tube so you can get a shorter (relative to the top tube) seat tube while keeping the same (effective) top tube length and fore/aft body position (center of gravity). Ancillary benefits include increased standover height for whatever that’s worth.
Makes sense: if traditional “racer” fit is to have a seat tube around 2cm taller than the length of the top tube, and a “square” fit is to have the seat tube = top tube, then this just takes it to the next level (literally).
THX GUYS
(Still gonna stick with level top tubes though hehe)
The sloping toptube i can get down with on this bike.
not worth anywhere near $900 if you ask me
might be worth it if it were like $500-$600

agreed!
$900 buys some very nice vintage steel.
This is a “new” bike that might appear in a bike shop. This precludes about 99% of tarck from being interested.
yeah i saw a chris kvale sell for ~$850 a year and a half ago. super nice frame.
but it was a little small for me, cm longer on top tube woulda been perfect.
not having to compromise fit/philosophy very much is nice. worth some money.
also, for that really nice used frame to come along…you might have to wait years…if it ever does come along.
Was thinking about this earlier today: have you guys considered swapping frames?
Just sayin’… could be “just right” for each respective significant other.

Last I checked Mercian’s were cheaper than this price even after shipped to 'merica, and you get to pick your color.

Haha, truth…
Highlights from Riv write-up:
“It rides great. Nobody in the world could dislike how this bike feels.”
“Key thing: It has a one-inch threaded steer tube, which means it takes a standard quill stem.”
"No doubt somebody will think AMOS is a reference to AMOS and ANDY, and therefore mean to African-'mericans, but AMOS was a name before that TV show, and it’ll be a name way after, too. "
There’s only one GP. That’s fer damn sure.

I would love to argue with him. That sounds like an afternoon of good clean fun. And root beer.
buuump.
did this project die?
haven’t seen anything about it in like a year.
the page is right here.

ain’t gonna lie tho.
if you gonna spend 2k on a roadeo you might as well drop the extra bill and get a custom davidson with a king headset installed…
Rivendell X Soma X Hemp collabo = “Dude, I thought you were ordering the frames?”
