I have an old pair of Specialized Ground Controls 27.5x3.0 that seem like they’re weeping from a bunch of pinpoints in the sidewalls. I’m running Orange Seal Endurance. Is there another sealant that would solve this (non-Endurance?)? Or are these tires just shot?
If they are shot, does anyone run 27.5 x 3.0 tires that they really like? Otherwise, I’m just gonna go Ground Controls again if these won’t seal, cuz <$50. Maybe spend a little more and get Purgatory?
Take it off bike and shake wheel while it is horizontal with the pinholes at the far end of the wheel from your body. Slosh slosh slosh that stuff onto the holes.
Losing air. I sprayed with soapy water and there are tiny pinprick bubbles all over the sidewall up by the tread. Might be high volume low pressure tires + big dude + age of tires (gotta be like 4-5yo at this point)?
I think I’d be better off throwing new Purgatories on there and stop trying to make this shit work. This bike with more tread might be pretty fun?
I don’t strongly dislike them, just won’t buy again.
Most things have already been said, but i’ll add that most of my riding currently is grav grav and I just don’t have much confidence taking turns with any speed. They roll OK on pavement, but overall I feel like the Byways were just as good on pavement and better on dirt/grav.
On the plus side I do suspect the Ramparts have a big bigger sweet spot in terms of tire pressure. I don’t religiously monitor tire pressure, I just pump back up when the ride feels too sketchy. And I’m pumping up less frequently on Ramparts than on Byways.
Probably silly and pedantic but wondering what folks consider the better tubeless sealant/plugger system now. Seems like you now choose orange seal and dyna plug or stans and stans dart.
Say you are beginning your tubeless life with no existing infrastructure on a road setup, what do you choose?
Probably orange seal. I like @EndpointBraden’s plan to set up with regular and then fill with endurance for long term. No point messing with bacon strips and such for gravé tires atmo. Stick tube in and call it a day if you flat.
I went back to Stans on my giant mtb tires but it is too soon for me to have observed any differences.
