“Jan is bad”
“If u only read inflammatory bike nerd opinions then you have a skewed view”
“Well actually he’s worse”

So can I get the regular ones or do I need to get one of the eye-bleeding expensive varieties? This is for 26x1.8 with tubes on the XO-2.
Standard casing RH are great.
Since we’re kinda back on topic, and I’m a guy who would like to get a new-ish bike in the next few years, is 650b “all-road” a dead category already? I am fine with 700c x 42ish but also had considered wider 650b as a possibility but is Jan really the best option? I am a meaty man in a city strewn with construction debris and RH durability gives me pause even if some folks have good results
How tall are you
Are you a 36 spoke wheel kind of guy
~5’11" and when possible yes but I’m alright with settling for 32 these days
Define what you want I suppose
Is this a Swiss army bike or is it going to be a race bike for commuting
tarcklebee for leaking deep state secrets
your deep state’s favorite deep state?
Kind of related question–I’ve got 27.5 x 3" tires (VEE, “T-fatty,” with too much knob and way too much edge knob) on my new Jones. What are some options for 3" wide or a little narrower with enough knobs for traction but not so horrible on the road? This bike wants to be ridden all over town, but not in those shoes.
Teravail Oxbow
There were some huge G-Ones at one point but I’m not sure what Schwalbe has these days
Might be fewer knobs than desired, but these are a few options
Thanks y’all.
Yeah, I should probably ride it more to figure out exactly how smooth I want to go. The speedster was the other package deal option, but since this is supposed to replace my p-29er I don’t want to run out of grip. The T Fatties (the plural sounds dirty) are in that window for me where the side tread starts making turns unnerving on flat road right about at the tire pressure that feels best overall.
Re: bike personalities, I kinda like Josh Poertner in spite of the uber-lux target market he chases. He’s still a fun nerd.
Blew up a new tire on some rocks:
Spare tube #1 had a hole from abrasion due to being in the framebag for 3+ years. But spare tube #2 was good to go + cereal bar wrapper boot got me home.
Only the third time I’ve had to use a tube since starting tubeless in 2018, each time due to catastrophic destruction of the tire or rim.
What made this especially remarkable was the tire behavior after putting in the tube. I’ve always run these tires (Vittoria e-Barzo 27.5x2.1) at 20-25psi tubeless. Using a tube, the pneumatic trail/tire scrub was so bad at those pressures it was like the headset was locking at random points in the steering angle. The bike was almost unrideable off-road. I had to take the pressure to 30psi to get a reasonable level of control. Someone was complaining about this tires handling on the 650b Google Group and I was blown away at how severe the issue was. Strange combo of casing and knobs producing an outsize effect.
Took about an hour to get everything fixed and back riding. 30 minutes jacking around on the trail with my framebag, remembering how to put in a tube and then realizing the first one was punctured, 30 minutes at home putting on a new tire and buying another one on eBay.
Unfortunately, my wellspring of cheap but good tires is drying up. There used to be hundreds available at this price from this seller, but now we’re into the single digits. By the time they go out of stock at this price I’ll have bought a dozen over the past 3 years.
anyone have negative opinions of the hookworm?
E-1x1
Perfect tire for that application.
Hookworms are absolute dogshit. They are heavy and the ride quality is ass.
DTH, Power Block, or anything else would be a better use of money.
So you’re saying they’re perfect for the application.
