Stem/seat post help

So I got this road bike. 1986 Centurion Ironman Master, all shimano 600.

I’ve been looking for a new stem for about a week since the 120 that came with it is too long. I need something 90-100mm with 26.0 clamp which is a pain in the ass when it comes to quill stems. I was considering a nitto peal but if I do that I might as well get a nice seat post too. I immediately went to Thomson but oh, what? 27.0 only comes in black now. That means I’ll need a black stem. 3ttt and Deda at least seem to make them, bit does anyone here have any experience with them? Or if I go with the pearl, what’s a nice 27.0 post?

how about Shimano Dura Ace?

i don’t think a pearl will throw anything off balance as far as seatposts go.

Maybe. 2 seconds after I posted this I finally got emailed back about a cinelli 1A. I guess I’m going with that + shim.

i need a 26.2 seatpost.
plzhalp.

The old aero Shimano 600/ DA seatposts are really nice—i have 2. Tarckers should note that both times I paid much less than what the seller in rustys auction is asking ($38, then £2). That’s a ripoff for a post that isn’t like new.

Also isn’t 27.0 > [

this is

This shit isn’t hard. Search ebay for “27.0 seatpost” and pick one. Same for the stem. Even if you don’t buy on ebay it’s a quick way to see what your options are.

This one would give you extra matchy match points with your Mercier.

i would use a pearl, but i love the finish on nitto components, so i’m certainly biased. 600 posts come up on the bay from time to time, and yes they are commonly found in 27.0, and that dope aero shape /micro adjust feature is sweet. i have 2 600 posts, and prefer them to any other - including thompson. that in mind, if you decide you want to run a black post, i have a 27.0, 250 mm post i would sell for $30, and also two black 26.0 quill stems. one is a sakae, and the other an ITM, i think they are both 100’s, but i’ll have to check. if you want them, i be happy to trade for any 'ol damn thing - maybe that 120 stem?

This.

Kalloy also makes an unbranded version of this for like twenty bones.

Generally, if there’s enough wall thickness on the seat-tube, I’ll just ream the damned thing out to 27.2. .1mm isn’t that much to lose. Searching for uncommon seatpost diameters is lame. I did this with my conversion which was 27.0.

Yeah, but you’re Mr. Metal Man. We aren’t all as manly as you.

But you can be. I got an adjustable reamer off ebay for $20 and a reamer handle from enco tool for $20, that’s less than a new seatpost and a handy ability to have.

Still not as manly as you though.
