TAF, JA, or just WTH?

“geometry is more important than wheel size”

sez it right there.

JA cuz why have a rack if not to quasi-legally obscure your plate.

Fuck everything, we’re doing five blades bikes

TAF except for the plate. this is my dream setup. wagon. box. tray. hitch rack. it’s glorious.

I bought the plate bracket but have never installed it because the thing you do most with the rack is drop it half way so you can get in the hatch and the plate hanging off of it would make that way worse.

last time i ran the numbers it was cheaper to pay tickets than rent a spot, same math in crown heights and greenpoint, maybe they picked up enforcement since, i doubt renting a spot got cheaper though.

Dude I spoke to (Vulture cycles) said it felt like it cornered on rails, in a good way, like he was just not going to lose traction. Also of course the benefits when going over smaller roots and rock bumps. Comparing against other similar bikes he attributed it to tire/wheel size exclusively.

I don’t think he did a ton of steep climbing on it so not sure about that or the having-to-accelerate-huge-hoops potential issue.

I remain convinced that this is a negligible factor outside of novelty bikes with literal tractor wheels

That’s why they’re bringing back the stickers.

classic NYC to insist on sweeping the streets 4x/wk and some sticker prorgam instead of doing the obvious and banning cars without commercial plates,

forcing everyone to join a city run zipcar type system they could call ZoCar,

like a real progressive dictator would.

I think the models and subsequent reality of this has changed recently from what it was in the past.

While there are a lot of variables to play with; in almost all cases a 32" wheel requires less power than the 29" wheel. Mainly because the first available 32" tires have started so fast that overlap wherein the smaller wheel could have an advantage of weight/etc. does not exist.

This is even before the roll-over advantage, traction advantage.

I suspect there may be some physiology differences at one end of the spectrum that could greatly effect a given rider’s perception but I don’t think this expands to performance unless using RPE as the metric to judge.

I also feel like the last 10+ years that climbing performance and bike weight just aren’t the issues they used to be in the public perception.

@BicyclePears needs to commission a frame with a front 20 and rear 32 that can either be a pursuit or a porteur depending on build
