The next time I see...
This really is the biggest fixed gear faux-pas I can imagine. The only thing that’s worse is when it’s TAPE instead of grips.

That’s why I was kind of pleased when risers became de rigeur for fixed gear guys. You know, at least they stopped pretending that they needed anything other than the tops of the bars. I’ve been continually amused to see the fixed gear evolve into a comfort bike, in this way.
I don’t know. If you’re riding an agressive bike agressively on the road, even if it’s a track bike, I think the sensible setup would be to have road drops (perhaps even with hoods?). Even bullhorns are ok. Just something with more than half a hand position.

I usually see bullhorns on conversions and risers on tarck bikes.

Pfff, grips are a pain to remove and put on. The worst is unrolling them from the condom-like thing when I finally get them off.

Like I said, it’s tarck as fuck this way, and that’s how I like it.

work and old bit of brake cable down the grip, put a few drops of lube in there and twist it around. simple. just make sure you clean the oil off the inside before putting that shit back on, unexpected chest on stem slams are not fun for anyone. except whoever gets to see it happen.

I dont mind tape in the drops only, especially if you ride with gloves. As was mentioned, if you want to ride aggressively, road drops, either ergo or classic and maybe even with hoods is the jam. I think my next exporation will be a ss/fixed CX bike, drops, hoods, the whole shebang. Track grips on just the tops is just fuckin stupid, end of story, if you have the change for 123’s or any other deep track drop, you can afford to trade them, or buy some bars that fit and are useable.
kthnx.
/end rant

Brake cable? What’s that? :bear:

what i meant to say was to use an old spoke from that wheel you taco’d trying that 15ft drop.

fucking genius. It’s always 30 minutes and two sore hands later that I finally get my grips back from the inverted condom stage of the removal.

Bullhorns ftw…

yep. heres mine

i usually ride with gloves too . . . . . .nothing’s worse than a flap of skin hanging off you palm after a fall

 • :bear: , and another :bear: to Blick’s road drop suggestion.

The other day I actually saw a guy with his hands basically folded on the stem, presumably because his tarck drops had become unrideable. 'Twas amusing and gave me something to talk about when I got to the shop, but was also a bit disturbing.

Half of me hates this because it looks stupid. The other half knows its because the person piloting that bike can only ride on the tops because it’s either the wrong size or that njs stem/bar is to deep and they cant use the drops. That half hates it too.

I pretty much hate all drop bars (not on the track) that are not fully taped. But what the hell do I know…
I’ve been doing a lot of thinking.

The way I see it, if you’re going to pretend to a be a tarck star with your half-taped deep, deep drops, and jag stem, do the bottom half, even if you spend 99% of your time on the tops. Nobody is going to believe you if you only have the tops taped/gripped, so why bother? And anyway, if you can’t reach your drops, but you’re too much of a douchebag to install some bullhorns/riser/flats or fully tape your bars, you don’t deserve comfortable hands.
I agree completely. This is now Man Law.

maybe i’ll just carry a hacksaw and cut off the drops below the grips…
this seems better than killing someone.

What a bunch of cry babies.
