I will die on the hill of “a Chris King headset is almost worth it” We change out bearings on all manner of headsets from Cane Creek, WI, FSA, and whatever. I have serviced a headset bearing on a King headset in my own bike all of once in the last 20 years.

When the price went up 30% recently it did make it harder to justify.

This gets into my own theories, but IME, IMO, ATMO, headset bearing death most often comes from the headset being adjusted badly, or if a rider washes their bike with a hose like a careless jerk. Also, if you own and rotate through a bunch of bikes each headset sees way less wear than the single headset on a one bike hero’s bike.

Under those assumptions it’s no surprise that an industry professional’s headset bearings need little service. : p

Sidebar: it never ceases to amaze me how looseygoosey people will ride their headsets and not notice.
