Time for something new

That looks hot except for the extranious outer chainring.

That chainring is a $3 bashguard. Whenever I rode over extended stretches of hardpack or rocky, craggy stretches or trail, the chain would throw. I put on the little chain watcher on the inside and that chainring on the outside. Now the chain pretty much cannot throw, even if it wants to. It’s a good use for old, worn biopace rings.

I dig that ride man!
I want one really bad.
any problems braking with dual pivots when its loaded, I’ve been wanting to do something similar to an old schwinn I have, but i’ve always been concerned with braking power due to it not having canti’s. I would replace its single pivots with some nice duals, but I want to make sure that would work out.

That’s what I figured, I’m just an asthetics nazi when it comes to other peoples bikes.

Thanks! I’m still dialing in the shifting, and now I’m fairly confident that the derailleur hanger is a bit bent. It works, but could be smoother. Next time I’m at the co-op, I’ll have to use the derailleur hanger repair kit we bought earlier this year.

The braking power is a bit wimpy. It’s OK on the trails, but I do need to take that into consideration when picking lines and bombing hills. I’m going to get canti posts brazed on, I think. Discs sound fun, but also higher-maintenance and would require new wheels, and I really like the wheelset I built for this bike.
