been riding conti ultrasports for some time know and have had nothing but good experiences with em (knock on wood).
bummer you’ve had bad experiences.[/quote]
Except for the tire-lever breaking, fingernail ripping, blister inducing process of mounting/unmounting them – they are without a doubt the tightest tires I’ve ever had.
I joined to post this, just because I hate them that much.

I hate them, more than anything.
Above all else, stay away from Conti Ultrashits.
The last pair I ever owned (and ever will own) picked up and held bits of glass and sharp rocks like no other tire I have ever ridden. The was so much stuff embedded in them they felt and looked like sandpaper after a couple of weeks, with thousands of grains of sand and glass permanetly stuck in the tire. Also, lots of objects had had actually worked their way completely through the tire and were embedded in the tuffy liners that were needed to prevent a flat every 2 seconds.
Finally the sidewall catastrophically blew and I had to walk home 7 miles in the rain. Toilet paper would make a better tire.
haha, I mean, I’ve only had one, so my experience is limited, but I’ve ridden it for some time (3 or 4 months) with no problems so far. Perhaps I got lucky, you folks’ strong feelings may steer me clear of them in the future.
p.s. good to have you lordfoo
Right now I’m trying out the Vittoria Randonneur on the back. My buddy was running everwears and is pretty happy with them although his now has a lot of flat spots. I was going to pick up a Everwear but it seems like a lot of places are out of them. So I was recommended Randonneurs and have been happy with them so far.

You want a really nice low-cost tire? Try a Panaracer Pasela Tourgaurd. They are light, grippy, roll nicely, and are suprisingly durable. I use these on my conversion because they come in 27". They are one of my favorite tires. I’ve gone through several sets and usually get several thousand miles out of them. The skinwall is a little old-fashined looking, but they look nice on older steel conversions.

I might have to look into a set of these to try out on my road bike.
I want to replace the tires on it, and was actually looking for something vintage looking (it’s a 77 schwinn built with 105 gold arrow and some old arayas and stuff.)
thanks for the rec.
They’re just about bulletproof, for sure, but have you tried riding the all conditions just before or after a lighter tire? I noticed a major difference in rolling resistance when I put on my speediums.

Nashbar frequently has them on sale for pretty cheap.
never had ANY issues with my ultra sports. i skidded the shit out of them, rode all of town, and had them for nearly 9 months before i went up to a larger tire size. i still have them as emergency spares. yeah, they are a total bitch to get on/off, but i’ll vouch for them.

was the rolling resistance difference for the all conditions making them feeling a little more sluggish?
