I think this may be my next investment,
I’ve fallen in love with this bike.

thoughts in terms of general badassery/utility use in off season/all purpose bike for road and cross racing (with a wheelset swap?)
The one they have at the shop up the street is way badass. The red hoods on the SRAM shifters are cool. It is a little pricey, IMO, but if you live it that pretty much ends the discussion.
I work at a specialized shop, so the price would end up being really reasonable, and to be honest, thats a pretty clean price on a bike that caliber (in my opinion)
I just have trouble picturing fenders on it.
my buddy has one that he races for cross and only cross. i’m sure you could use it as an anything bike, but why would you? don’t you already have a fantom cross that you’re using for the same purpose?
No I dont have a cross bike at all. I have a trek 1000 with ultegra as a road ride, a nishiki touring bike and a bareknuckle. And the tandem. My plan would be to sell (probably) the tandem and trek and possibly the nishiki and buy the tricross.

Tarck is about “Of course I don’t have an X kind of bike! I’ve got a Y and a Z bike. Oh yeah, I’ve got an A, B, and a C bike too. There’s also a D bike back at my parents house that I hardly ever ride. I’m probably (not) going to sell some or all of them to fund the X bike, because it’s the bike of my dreams.”
Select X,Y,Z,A,B,C,D randomly from tarck, track, tallbike, tandem, townie, rando, cross, BMX, MTB( 26er,29er,36er,SS,squish), modern roadie, classic italian roadie, semi-vintage japanese roadie, custom steel roadie, Cannondale roadie, Cannondale track.
What’d I miss?

bahahaha,
you didnt miss anything. I’m actually trying to thin out the stable and i fell in love with that bike, so I’m trying to justify that it would serve multiple purposes (mostly road and cross riding) and looking for opinions in case i missed something.
the tricross is blingy as hell, but do you want that bling at the expense of function? i say find a new cross bike, or save your pennies all summer. cross season’s a long ways off.
what do you mean by “find a new cross bike”? I’m not perspective buying this until middle or end of summer anyways.
i mean, you have bikes that serve specific purposes. it doesn’t seem like any of them are wasted. you’re willing to sell them, though, for this (gorgeous) bike that can’t serve those purposes nearly as well.
all i’m saying is, if you have to sell both your road bike and possibly your touring bike for this, is it worth it?
I am pretty set on getting a tricross single as my next ride. i need a ‘does it all’ bike. can’t really see myself selling anything to get it, though.
the singlecross doesn’t have a $2900 msrp…
i mean, he’s gonna ep it, but still.
edit: if you really want this bike, then go for it. but for me, i don’t think it would be worth it.

Much of the issue here is:
a) my road ride is aging, it’s an 04 and I’m anticipating some serious repairs being needed post collegiate season
b) I want a cross bike so I can race cross next fall
c) I currently have 5 bikes in a TINY dorm room, and need the space
So my reasoning is this: if I sell the tandem (planned regardless), and I sell my trek after cycling season I will have more than enough to get the tri cross. Then, I can either sell the touring bike (improbable) or leave it at my parents for when I go home. I mean, clearly I’m pushing it trying to buy a blingy bike, and I’ve come to terms with that, but I would like to check out sram gear, and I feel like I should take advantage of the specialized deal.
go for it, then. sounds like you know what you want.
but wanting a blingy sporty cross bike, and having that work out well are two completely different things, someone punch some holes in this shit or you think i’ll be ok?

Man up and do it.

I like the way you think.
can’t really help, but specialized sure knows how to make ugly forks and rear triangles.
