Counterpoint: I ran 1x di2 on the cross bike. Programmed both left shifter buttons to move up the cassette, both right hand buttons to move down it. Made it super easy to deal with shifting in gnarly conditions with bigass gloves when it was super cold/snowing. Shifts super well, no exposed cables to get gunked up. Charge a battery once every cross season.
