Curious if those lugs are actually optimized for anything. Not a fan of organic shapes just for looks, and that seems like more material than necessary
optimized for instagram likes, if nothing else
EDIT: ooo dang my own post is optimized for Tarck likes
not that the ti lugs aren’t cool, but this dude is doing some stuff that is extra cool. 3D printed stem optimized for strength / weight and buildable without any support structure.
3d printing is less good at thin walls but these lugs could just be a lot shorter. I’m thinking 3t volumetrica style lugs with carbon tubes.
One ultimate bike would be drop bar all road bike that:
-Fits up to 650b x 2.1" or 700c x 42
-3 bottle cage mounts
-Relatively long reach
-Adjustable fork offset for different tire sizes
-Adjustable BB height for different tire sizes
-Is light (<1500g frameset)
Managed to have some success with ticking almost all these boxes with a project… and it’s coming soonish! (note: not something I’m making in my shitty garage workshop but something I’m a smaller part of).
Another ultimate bike would be an aero track bike with all of the reach and most of the stack (instead of none of the stack). Something like 560-580mm stack and 460+mm reach so that it plays nice with modern 35-37cm bars and my long position. I’m working on this (in my shitty garage workshop).
Cripes.
Or etap hydro levers to hydro force rim brakes
This is the correct answer.
Shit. My orange merckx needs that…
These peeps are doing the 3d printed lugs with carbon tubes too.
Oz bike industry peeps tell me there have been a bunch of catastrophic failures on these.
Is anyone actually surprised?
Which parts blew up – the lugs, I presume?
Tell me more metal bois
If you’ve flown in an airplane built or overhauled in the last decade, you are trusting epoxy.
Had a revelation that my coffee grinder and mojo 3 are basically the perfect bikes for the riding I like to do for fun. I’ll fuck with components and stuff, but those frames are really fucking great and versatile.
My ugly trek 930 basketbiek is my ultimate bike, though. When the apocalypse comes, that’s what I’m taking.
I also can’t find any fault with mine no matter how hard I try
True true.
Lug to tube failure. One at HT while at speed downhill, another at DT to BB
Firefly has been doing ti lugged bikes forever. Wonder if the 3d printed lugs delaminate in some way.
