Looks like you bent the seattube when you crashed into that sign.

Winter arrived with a vengeance today. On Sunday, we got 6+ inches of snow turning to freezing rain then back to snow, then the temp dropped. It was 3F with a -14F windchill on my morning commute. Roads were either clear pavement or packed snow that was fine with studded tires. Intersections were dicy with ruts of mushy sandy/salty snow. I need to improve my eyewear/balaclava setup. Even with a mouth vent in the face mask, my exhalation gets directed upward and frosts my glasses. I think I need either goggles or a more structured mask.

This is probably going to sound silly but have you tried just not covering your face? You might be surprised how little you need to have your face covered if you’re not going that fast because of road conditions

Yep, but below about 6F, my lungs really prefer prewarmed air. Tarck is about balaclava dithering?

Tarck is about not fucking around outside until the temp digit has at least one friend.

Oh so I was fine yesterday because it was -7, so that little - sign was the friend to the 7!
It was also super gusty winds up to about 20mph
It was cold but skate skiing causes your body to overheat in any weather so I didn’t really notice

I waited for friendly digits/windchills. Got so sweaty that I wished for it to be colder :slightly_frowning_face:
Twas my first snowy hambiek ride this winter. Conditions ranged from “I’m going so fast on this crust!” to “I’m walking, crust done broke”. Really slow fun times overall.

Are you riding on trails or just where ever? My Jones has plus tires and I haven’t had an opportunity to take it out in the snow yet.

Trails, single/double tracks, on conservation lands near my home.
Riding in the snow can be most fun and frustrating.

Suuuuuper late to this thread but I just wanted to say I love this RoboCop look you have going on.

Well I’ve yet to actually wear shades under the visor.

Helment theme song

Nothing beats a winter sunrise over the lake.

wish my commute looked like that.

I’m looking for studded tires now

I don’t wear glasses, but my advice is get goggles. You can wear you balaclava, which helps with breathing in cold air and protects your skin from drying out (your advanced-age self will thank you), it seals in more warm air, you don’t have to worry about fogging lenses AND it just makes single-digit riding more comfortable.

I wear goggles anytime it’s below about 28.

Counterpoint, goggles block your hearing and peripheral vision making riding in traffic seriously dicey.
