Some days I really wish I had a full face shield. It’s cold and my eyes water at the slightest hint of a cool breeze.

I’ll risk being ‘that guy’, don’t skimp on helmets. I fractured my skull close to 15 years ago, and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. Even to this day it’s easy for me to get vertigo doing something basic like walking down a tight spiral staircase.

I got a couple merino wool shirts and some sort of fleece/synthetic wicking + wind blocking hoodie coming in the mail.
All my socks and underwear are already merino wool, I guess at some point everything else but jeans will be too. I’m gonna be That Northwest Guy.
I use a double-layered balaclava in the alpine, which is usually good to single digits with wind chill. The outer layer will be frozen solid, but my face is still warm.
I want to like BlackStrap, but everything I’ve gotten from them just isn’t that warm.
Also suspicious about a balaclava that claims to work over and under a helmet.
28F and an inch or two of snow here. i took the week off work so i went for a ride. 3.5 hours at like 14mph average (on crushed gravel/dirt rail trail). it was mostly great. my big toe on my right foot always gets cold. other than that, plus my bottles freezing, i was very happy.

anyone else with sub-freezing winter have experience with different bib tights? what’s good? I wanna go fast but not have cold/wet crotch problems. lookin at velocio zero, rapha pro team thermal, etc.
i have some pearl izumi. they are arguably too warm. they’re also too tight. i wear a medium EVERYTHING cycling related from any brand, including medium PI stuff in other varietals. but these mediums are too tight around the guads.
the other annoying thing about the PI ones is that the seams are the weak points so when you take them off your skin at the seams is all red and chilly. so i guess do not buy PI tights. they’re good down into the single digits but i run hot in general.
honestly the best winter leg wear i have is a pair of performance bike pants with windproof front and fleece back. i think i got them 15 years ago.
