It has two stems. Agility in the mountains?
Likely didnât have spacers and we were shaking it down lol
has anyone ever had a ridley that they liked? i owned one. hated it. rode a few of their cross bikes. hated them.
I had an early Ridley Crossbow that I loved. I bought it from EJ and rode it for some CX and did gravel on it before gravel was cool. And after, for that matter. I gave it to my brother after the Swiss Cross and the Coffee Grinder elbowed it out of the rotation. Kinda wish I still had it.
Apologies for NDS picture.
I liked my Ridley crossbow too.
Would race it now if it wasnât canti.
had a Cannondale fully rigid MTB that was too small. somehow the fucking thing was teeth rattlingly stiff with 2" tires on it, no matter the pressure. traded it for a couple of nights in a house in Bend and I got the better deal. Old MTBs sucked.
Hereâs my caadx, the day I bought it off CL. Felt like riding through cement, tried plenty of different tires too.
ok so the ridley crossbow is the only good ridley for some people? i rode one a few times and hated it.
I heard that Ridley bikes have classically high bottom brackets
This is the most instructional thread on Tarck.
This bike kind of sucked. Not sure what I was thinking - I thought it would be so awesome in the winter?
This was my lock-up bike for a while. The seat was rock hard, one of the pedals was broken and the 3sp hub only worked in one speed. It was fun tho
You canât blame the whole bike for what is clearly the barsâ fault.
I canât find a pic, but my worst was my first modern road bike. Some massive alloy tubed thing with a 1" Threadless fork that was bone-jarring just standing still. I commuted on it with a giant ortlieb backpack for a few months until it mercifully cracked at the head tube.
Swapped all the parts and fork onto an early caad roadie which felt goddamned luxurious in comparison.
This 1989 Raleigh Technium Pre felt like it took all of your energy and didnât give anything back. The rear brake housing also pinged inside the top tube:
I also really didnât like the slack head tube and little wheels on this Schwinn Mirada. Put me off from 26" bikes for a long time, but maybe it was just this one because I really like my Haro Extreme:
I had a bonded aluminum trek 1420 like this one
Great paint, cool color. Rode like an absolute noodle. No spring where there should be spring. I will forever think all bonded frames are the worst frames.
i will repost mine in this thread. ridley aedon.
the harshest bike of all time even with the carbon fork.
i did have another very bad bike but it wasnât high end which was part of my stipulation for this idea to begin with. this was 2005 peak fixie. i bought a horizontal dropout repainted frame on ebay for way too much money. turns out it was a schwinn varsity. someone fooled me. i also couldnât get the chain line right so the chain would drop periodically, which was particularly bad because it was brakeless.
next we can do a favorite bad bike thread
Wasnât varsity Ashtabula?
also this photo is from an active ebay listing that is selling this bike buy it now for $467. insane price. i almost want to message the seller.
