That’s what makes it so weird/awesome. We all know very eccentric people who wear their eccentricity (or cray cray in some cases) on their sleeves - this guy, he’s all stealth about it.
Edit: this guy is in Anthony Bourdain’s “Parts Unknown” episode about Seattle, he’s the younger of Knute Berger’s two friends at the table.

I wore a chain bracelet for a few months when I was 18 or so. But I had the good sense to put a sram quick link on it so it was easy to take off. 9sp.

as far as I can tell, chain bracelets come in two sizes:
1. too tight and pinchy
2. too loose, so the sharp edges of the outer plates can randomly dig into your flesh

He was a kinda intense dude. The bracelet wasn’t cutting off circulation but he couldn’t get it off and wanted to put on his new one…
I asked him if he wanted a quicklink for the new bracelet, so as to avoid his current situation. He declined.
For those interested: it was a 9spd chain. He was replacing it with an 11spd bracelet. It was kinda awkward to remove it with the chain breaker, but he wanted to keep it so the bolt cutters weren’t an option (this made me very sad, there’s nothing better than applying those bolt cutters to anything and everything I can). I didn’t get a creeper vibe from him tho, just a dude who likes his bikes. Dude was probably in his late 40s.

We have a woman who makes bike part jewelry who uses actual jewelry clasps for her chain bracelets. No tools required.
