I’ll have to do some research. Admittedly, that experience with bonding to whatever plastic we were trying (HDPE?) was at least 15 years ago, so things may have changed.

After receiving Rusty’s old Xtra cycle kit (thanks again Rusty!), I noticed it has mounting for v-brakes and the possibility for rear disc (203mm rotor spacing is stamped into the mount). This got me thinking of being ridicuolus and running both a v-brake and a cable actuated disc on the rear a-la some dual pull lever. How frowned upon/terrible is this idea?

You might not want to do this just because it’s already super easy to skid the rear wheel on a long-tail when it isn’t loaded with garbage (and then at that point you are going so slow I’m not sure you need more brakes lol)

If you’re running huge loads down steep hills, might be helpful, but like shart said its super easy to lock up the rear on a longtail as is. BUT ditherers gonna dither. I think the free radical needed some proprietary adapter fuckery too? Maybe I’m misremembering.

Found this Big Ben Plus HS 439 (20 x 2.15) on sale and have been looking for a tiny bit more front end cushion from the Marathon Plus HS 440 (20 x 1.75) that shipped with my Grin Tech wheel. Stoked to discover that it fits under the Planet Bike ALX fender! The commute into work today was way more smooth, ate up potholes without flinching and the rounder profile of the tire made turning at speed less sketchy. Discovered I could lean the Cycletruck saddle on the wall to work on the front end without breaking out the repair stand.

For the last couple years I’ve had some absolute brick tires on my cargo, even some ebike specific 20" on the front, because I absolutely do not want to deal with flats, but maybe there’s a middle ground between a powerblock and the turds I’m using.

Figured cross-posting here was reasonable.

> As a long time windsurfer, traditionally I’ve had gear stashed shore side. However, due to the pandemic, everything has been inaccessible and now I’m trying to figure out how to bike my gear about. Generally it seems like there are two primary types, side-carry and trailer. The commercial options (as is often the case) are too costly for me. Sooo, looking for advice! I will be lugging a long (~12ft) board, split mast, boom, and sail. How are you liking the side strap things that @Straws made for you? I’m always considering getting rid of the wooden box that I got for my Supermarche, but want to make sure I have a good alternative before diving in.

They’re cool but I think they’d be more useful if I were carrying more unusually sized things like boxes of huge flower arrangements. I mostly carry water and beer and a little little boy.

Wanted a soft-sided cooler and got one that pairs really well with the rectangular milk crate on the Lorry. Fits snugly but enough room on the long side to shove some layers etc. Cooler fits 24 beers plus ice, probably more like 20 if you don’t pack it super carefully.
