You're gunna hurt yourself: Carry Shit Olympics (aka the Cargo Bike thread)

I’m looking at the Omnium or the Muli as a long-term purchase.

The Muli’s tiny wheels make it look shockingly small compared to other bikes!

You can adjust the bikes manually to get them close

lol, or even rotate to show how much space a vertically stored bike takes up in comparison

ok that helps, thank you

(still should have an X value for each BB that can be aligned)

really good to know.

I want to ride a Muli just to see how it is with that tiny front wheel, and see how bad it is over broken asphalt

The Muli doesn’t look like it’s got much more cargo space than a Wald 157 basket.

I did some guesstimating, and it’s ~1.7x the volume measured up to the top of the basket.

I think the stable ride from the low center of gravity, and overall compactness, are the strengths here. It looks like it’d handle 95% of what my use cases throw at it, with way less hassle than strapping stuff to the Omnium rack. I’d also be somewhat more likely to shove it into an elevator into a modern Swedish apartment building.

The Omnium looks better for longer distances and bigger loads though. Bigger tires, handles the occasional massive packages… it’s kind of a toss-up for me.

need to sell my bullitt and want to buy an omnium but they’re unobtanium in the states now ugh

I did my first big Costco trip on the big dummy. I miss my Bullitt for this kinda stuff and want to get another one. I can’t get over the horrible rear tire clearance on the Bullitt though. 26x2.6 make carrying heavy loads on our fucked up streets and gravel trails going up and down curbs much easier. Maybe I’ll make my own in steel with clearance for 20/29x2.6 someday.

For a bike that does a lot of things well they really effed up on that bit.

Looking at the R&M Packster 70s that Upway has for 1.2 bongs off (still 4.5-5.8 bongs after that) and realizing that the desire is still there for an electric bakfiets even though I have no need for one and it might make some of the more common bike things more difficult, like possibly having to ride more on the surface roads to work and the grocery store because there’s a couple of parts on the river trail and other shortcuts where I don’t think the bike would physically fit or a bike that’s 30" longer and more bulky would be very awkward. But still, how will I know if I don’t try. :person_shrugging:

Maybe the solution is two-biking

My neighborhood parent bike chat is drooooling over that bike on Upway right now

I have the same issue. My Bullitt is so cool and I’m so lucky to own it but its nearly useless in my current and upcoming lifestyle. But its so cool.

Yeah that’s probably 99% of why I want it. For me it would be like the bike version of owning a truck that I’d only use to two or carry stuff a couple of times a year. Well, riding a Big Bike would also be fun, as would just parking it where ever the hell I wanted to.

Bummer that Upway reduced the discounts just a little while ago, now they’re only $200-800 off.
