Anyone here familiar with Michigan cycling / camping ?
Thinking about planning a short bike tour hitting a few breweries with as much gravel/dirt in between as possible. Lakes / forests would be great as well. Camping preferred but could hotel.
Founders (Grand Rapids) is a must have. Bell’s (Kalamazoo) would be nice. Maybe New Holland (Holland) too?
My idea was to (try to) string together a route cobbled from some of the gravel races or tours in the region:
- Barry Roubaix in Hastings Route
- Hellcat Hundie in Dorr Route
- Shoreline West Bike Tour Route
- Lowell 50 / Rogue 100 Route (TODO)
Def open to other ideas if you know the area
Never ridden in MI before. Is this reasonable - or will I be disappointed?
I’ve done BR five(four?) times. It’s a great event if a bit overwhelming in its enormity. Thousands of cyclists take over the small town of Hastings.
I highly recommend it. I was gonna go this year, but my buddy changed the date of his bachelor party so I went and rode with him in the San Gabriel mountains instead.
I’ve done Barry twice. The scenery didn’t seem to be anything special, but of course it was effectively late winter in Western Michigan. My impression has been that it’s a cool ride because it’s kinda well known and huge, not necessarily because it’s an awesome cycling route.
But I could be wrong.
