It is a pretty great deal. Between my brothers and I we’ve built all sorts of stuff back there over the years. Until recently there was a full Moonboard-esque climbing wall, too.
We’re really hoping the elderly woman next door to my brother sells in the next year or two (to us). We would have 1000% more space and the kids get to spend time with those grandparents and cousins.
There are some huge downsides, of course. It all being in the middle of all the recent bullshit is one…
Wife’s job wants a ~a 3-5y commitment, so we can always fuck off back to Socialist Paradise if we hate it.
Kiddo on their bike was hit by a driver outside of school today, they are OK physically, I dont know the details…
Principle message home stresses the need to wear helmets and for peds/bikes to pay attention to vehicles…
edit: I immediately asked my principle for a meeting tomorrow…
should I:
Point out the problem with his e-mail’s focus?
Point out the problems with the schools infrastructure?
Ask who at the district is a liaison with city public works?
all of the above?
Buddy just texted this picture of a car he saw mixing up a building entrance with a road. Building clearly wasn’t paying attention or wearing enough high-vis.
Another resource that might be useful: Find out if there’s a local Safe Routes to Schools outreach coordinator/program coordinator for your city or region and get them involved. The one I know (Boston area) is fantastic on the politics and policy, winning hearts and minds, and not letting something like this go unaddressed.
Bro carbrain’s think that the safe solution is to only allow people to bus or drive their children.
I really hope the kids parents are as Agro as you are… We’ll see what he says. I have to really plan and practice this because in my heart, I am the guy in a torn up T-shirt and jorts yelling at city council members for two minutes.
Tried to think of something helpful for this situation but it keeps ending up with me screaming at your principal for being a moron who doesn’t understand vulnerability
